우리에게 소원이 있다면 하나님의 언약이 성취되는 것일 것입니다. 아브라함에게는 가나안 땅과 무수한 자손에 대한 약속이 있었고 주의 그리스도를 보기 전에는 죽지 아니하리라 한 지시를 받았던 시므온은 아기 예수를 뵈옵고 “주재여 이제는 말씀하신대로 종을 평안히 놓아 주시는도다.”라고 하였습니다. 우리는 우리의 삶에 무엇을 보고서 ‘이제는 다 되었습니다.’라고 할 수 있을까요?

언약은 약속과 같아서 그 이루어짐이 있을 때 비로소 실상이 됩니다. 그 이전에는 단지 소망이고 바라는 바 일 뿐입니다. 소망도 역사하는 힘이 있고 동기 부여도 되지만 기독교 복음의 참된 능력은 약속의 성취에 있습니다. 우리가 언약의 성취를 바라는 것은 결코 욕심이 될 수 없고 그것은 타당하며 정당하며 마땅히 되어야 할 일입니다. 오히려 약속의 성취가 없을 때 기독교는 그저 마음을 도적질하는 사기극에 지나지 않을 것입니다.

우선 첫 번째 우리가 언약의 성취를 바라는 것은 시므온처럼 살아 있는 동안에 이루어져야 할 것입니다. 그것은 아이가 자라서 대학엘 가거나 혹은 대학생이 대학을 졸업하는 것보다도 더 실질적으로 우리 삶에 이루어져야 할 것입니다. 우리는 살아가는 어느 시점에 ‘아 나에게 하나님의 언약이 성취되었어.’라고 말할 수 있어야 할 것입니다. 그것은 자랑이나 바람이 아닌 당연한 신앙인들의 삶의 고백이어야 합니다.

두 번째, 하나님의 언약은 하나님이 우리에게 이루어 주신다는 사실입니다. 흔히 기독교인들이 하는 착각과 오해 중 하나는 우리가 언약을 이루어야 하는 줄 안다는 것입니다. 그 이유는 그것이 책임감 있는 자세라는 내재된 생각과 또 그렇게 가르침을 받았기 때문입니다. 예를 들어 대통령이 선거 기간 중에 한 공약은 당선된 후에 대통령 자신에게 의해서 성취되어야 합니다. 하나님의 언약도 하나님께서 하나님의 시간표를 따라 친히 이루어주시는 것입니다.

세 번째, 하나님의 언약은 임마누엘, 곧 하나님이 우리와 함께 하신다는 것입니다. 우리는 이제 이 언약의 표현이 과연 어떤 상태로까지 이루어져야 할지를 함께 생각해 보겠습니다. 우선 하나님이 우리와 모든 역사를 통해 함께 하셨습니다. 과연 우리는 이를 모르지 않습니다. 하나님은 역사를 주관하시고 우리에게 주어지는 모든 일을 통해 기쁘신 뜻을 이루십니다. 그러나 여기의 임마누엘은 특히 예수의 이름으로 사용되고 있는 사실을 주목해야 합니다.

그래서 예수의 아기로 탄생하심을 생각해 보면 하나님께서 우리와 어떻게 함께 하시는 지를 조금 더 알 수 있습니다. 이후 모든 삶과 죽음까지의 전 과정을 통해 하나님은 인생들을 더 아시게 되었고 우리의 연약에 동참하실 수 있게 되었습니다. 그러므로 십자가 상에서 주께서 마지막으로 하신 “다 이루었다.”는 말씀은 하나님께서 인생의 모든 과정을 다 살아보셨다는 의미로 받아들여집니다.

만일 주님의 십자가가 언약의 실상이었다면 이를 두고 새 언약이라는 표현을 사용하지 않았을 것입니다. 그리고 주님의 돌아가시는 순간 모든 인생의 죄 값이 치러진 것으로 알면 될 것입니다. 그러나 주님이 죄 값을 치러주시고 주님은 어딘가에 계시고 우리는 단순히 죄 값만 치러준 것이니 주님은 주님이고 나는 나로 떨어져 존재하게 됩니다. 물론 많은 기독교인들이 여기에 머물러 있습니다.

하나님께서 우리와 함께 하신다는 언약은 예수께서 신령한 몸으로 부활하시고 모든 육체의 제한을 폐한 후, 우리의 심령 안에 보좌를 두시고 임재하실 때 비로소 성취됩니다. 만일 예수께서 2000년 전처럼 독립된 한 인생으로 계신다면 이는 또 제한된 의미에서의 함께 하심 밖에 되지 못합니다. 결국 예수께서 말씀하신대로 우리의 “생명”으로서 함께 하실 때 비로소 하나님이 우리와 함께 하심이 이루어지게 됩니다. 이것이 곧 그리스도와 연합한 우리입니다.

Simeon, who had a promise to the land of Canaan and countless descendants and was instructed not to die until he saw the Lord's Christ, met the baby Jesus and said, "Lord, now you are letting the servant go in peace as you say." What can we see in our lives and say, "It's done now?"

A covenant is like a promise, so it only becomes a reality when it is fulfilled. Before that, it was just a wish and a wish. The true power of the Christian gospel lies in the achievement of the promise, despite the power and motivation to make history. It is never greed that we desire the accomplishment of our covenant, it is valid, justified, and deserved. Instead, when promises are not fulfilled, Christianity will be nothing more than a fraud of stealing the mind.

First of all, the first thing we want to achieve is to be done while we are alive like Simeon. It will have to be done in our lives more practically than when a child grows up and goes to college or a college student graduates from college. At some point in our lives, we will have to be able to say, 'Oh, the covenant of God has been fulfilled to me.' It should be a confession of the lives of the believers, not a pride or a wish.

Second, it is true that God gives us his covenant. One of the common misconceptions and misconceptions of Christians is that we know we must make a covenant. The reason is that it was taught in such a way that it was a responsible attitude. For example, the president's promises during the election must be fulfilled by the president himself after being elected. God's covenant is also made personally by him according to God's timetable.

Third, the covenant of God is that Immanuel, that is, God, will join us. Let's now consider the extent to which this covenant should be expressed. First of all, God has been with us throughout history. We do not know this. God presides over history and accomplishes joy through everything that is given to us. However, it is important to note that Immanuel here is particularly used in the name of Jesus.

So, if you think about the birth of Jesus as a baby, you can see a little more about how God is with us. After that, through the whole process of life and death, God became more aware of life and was able to join our vulnerability. Therefore, the last words of the Lord on the cross, "I accomplished everything," are accepted as meaning that God has lived through the whole process of life.

If the Lord's cross was the actual state of the covenant, I would not have used the term New Covenant in this regard. And you should be aware that all the sins of life have been paid at the moment the Lord passes away. However, the Lord has paid for the sins, the Lord is somewhere, and we have simply paid for them, so the Lord is the Lord and I am separated from myself. Many Christians stay here, of course.

The covenant that God will be with us is only achieved when Jesus resurrects with a spiritual body and abolishes all physical restrictions, and then embeds in our spirits. If Jesus lives as an independent life as he did 2000 years ago, it will be nothing but together in a limited sense. Eventually, God will be with us only when he is with us as our "life," as Jesus said. This is who we are united with Christ.
