다카이치 사나에 일본 총리가 이달 넷째 주 한일 셔틀 외교 일환으로 한국을 방문한다. 8일 복수의 일본 외교 소식통에 따르면, 다카이치 총리는 19~20일 이재명 대통령의 고향인 경북 안동을 방문해 정상회담을 갖는 일정을 조율 중이다. 회담이 성사되면 이 대통령과 다카이치 총리의 세 번째 만남이 된다. 두 사람은 지난해 10월 경주 APEC 회의에서 처음 만났고, 올해 1월엔 이 대통령이 다카이치 총리의 고향인 나라현을 방문했다.

이번 회담에선 정상 간 친분을 이어가면서 호르무즈 해협 봉쇄로 인한 공급망 문제, 북한의 핵·미사일 문제 등 동북아 정세를 논의할 예정이다. 동맹들에 방위 분담을 요구하는 미국에 대응해 한일 간 안보 협력을 강화하는 방안도 주요 의제가 될 것으로 보인다. 미중 정상회담(14~15일) 결과도 논의될 전망이다.

한편 이재명 대통령은 8일 마크 카니 캐나다 총리와 통화하고, 중동 전쟁으로 인한 에너지·공급망 위기에서 호르무즈 해협 항행의 자유 보장, 안정적 에너지 수급을 위해 긴밀히 협력해 나가기로 했다.

이날 정상 간 통화는 캐나다가 추진하는 최대 60조원 규모 ‘캐나다 초계 잠수함 프로젝트(CPSP)’ 수주를 놓고 한화오션·HD현대중공업 컨소시엄이 독일 TKMS와 경쟁 중인 가운데 이뤄졌다. 수주전 결과는 이르면 다음 달 말 나올 예정이다. 청와대 관계자는 “워낙 규모가 큰 사업이고 정부 차원의 경쟁도 치열한 상황이어서 이 대통령이 힘을 보탠 것”이라고 했다. 앞서 강훈식 비서실장도 지난 1월 전략경제협력 대통령 특사 자격으로 캐나다를 방문했고, 김정관 산업통상부 장관은 지난 5~6일(현지 시각) 캐나다를 찾아 관계 부처 장관 등을 만났다.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will visit South Korea during the fourth week of this month as part of shuttle diplomacy between the two countries. According to multiple Japanese diplomatic sources familiar with the matter, Prime Minister Takaichi is coordinating a schedule to visit Andong, Gyeongbuk Province—the hometown of President Lee Jae Myung—on the 19th to the 20th for a summit. If the meeting takes place, it will mark the third encounter between President Lee and Prime Minister Takaichi. The leaders’ call took place as a consortium comprising Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries competes with Germany’s TKMS for Canada’s Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), worth up to 60 trillion Korean won.
