[틈틈이 영어공부] You had your eyes on it

- 영한 : ~를 눈여겨보아오다/탐내다, 살까 생각 중이다.

- 영영 :  If you have your eye on something, you want to have it.

- 활용/설명 : 대상이 사람인 경우, "(특히 잘못된 짓이라도 하지 않는지 보려고) ~를 계속 주시하다"의 의미

※ Rangers’ manager had his eyes on a S. Korean rookie. 
텍사스 레인저스 감독은 한국에서 온 신인 선수를 점찍었습니다.

- 예문 : 

I've had my eyes on that car and tomorrow I'm going to buy it.
저는 그 차를 눈여겨봐왔는데 내일이면 그걸 살 겁니다.

Andrew: Mark is moving and he gave me these books and I bought the chair.
앤드류: 마크가 이사를 하느라고 이 책들을 준 거고 의자는 내가 샀어.

Jane: What was he asking for the chair?
제인: 의자는 얼마 달라고 했어?

Andrew: Just $25.00.
앤드류: 25달러.

Jane: That's a great deal!
제인: 싸게 샀네!

Andrew: You can't beat it.
앤드류: 더 이상 쌀 수 없지.

Jane: You always liked that chair. You had your eyes on it for a long time.
제인: 당신 항상 그 의자를 좋아했잖아. 오랫동안 눈여겨봐왔지.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ what is (one) asking for (something): ~가격을 얼마 부르시는 건가요?
"What are you asking for your car?" 
(자동차 얼마에 파시는 거에요?)

▶ you can't beat it: 그보다 더 나은 가격은 없어요
"A computer monitor and printer for $250? You can't beat it.
That's a great price." (컴퓨터하고 모니터랑 프린터가 250달러에요? 그보다 더 좋은 가격은 없네요.)

▶ that's a great deal: 싸게 사시는 겁니다
