Jim Gray reported Tuesday night that a new trade is brewing which would make Kevin Garnett a member of the Phoenix Suns .

The Suns, Timberwolves and Celtics are discussing a deal with the Suns getting Garnett, the Celtics landing Phoenix forward Shawn Marion and the Wolves acquiring the fifth pick as well as a number of players from Boston.

Earlier in the day, Ric Bucher reported that the Lakers discussions with the Wolves concerning Garnett had fallen apart.

The current blockbuster depends on whether Marion would agree to a contract extension with the Celtics. Marion can opt out of his contract after next season. According to Gray, the Suns have already spoken to Marion about the potential trade. [READ]

Lakers Can't Get Garnett In 2-Team Deal With Wolves

Sources: Sonics Offer Ridnour To Atlanta For 11th Pick

The Sonics are eager to begin the restructuring of their roster and have offered the Atlanta Hawks point guard Luke Ridnour for the No. 11 pick in Thursday's NBA draft, according to three NBA sources.

The Hawks have long coveted Ridnour and he could be the point guard they have sought for years. Atlanta passed on New Orleans' Chris Paul and Utah's Deron Williams in the 2005 draft in favor of Bremerton's Marvin Williams.

Atlanta also has another deal on the table from a third team for a point guard and is mulling that offer. If the Hawks accept Seattle's offer, the Sonics would own two of the first 11 picks and four of the first 35 and almost certainly would deal the No. 31 and 35 picks for perhaps another first-rounder or future picks.

With the 11th pick, the Sonics could nab a point guard prospect such as Texas A&M's Acie Law, who worked out for the club earlier this month, or Georgia Tech's Javaris Crittenton, a freshman who would probably need a few years of seasoning before taking over the starting position. [READ]

Heat To Play Preseason Game In Biloxi

The game is officially a home preseason game for the Heat, which will run game operations and will receive a financial guarantee for moving the game to a neutral site. It will be the fifth preseason game for the Heat, which opens its exhibition schedule on Oct. 8. [READ]

"Our philosophy is if you trade the picks then it has to make you immediately better," Bickerstaff said Tuesday. "There are scenarios out there that look good to us and we like because they make us better."

Bickerstaff didn't reveal the teams he's talked to, but several teams, including Philadelphia, Phoenix and Golden State, have shown interest in moving up in the draft.

Bucks general manager Larry Harris confirmed the 5-foot-5 Boykins, the second smallest player in NBA history, has given him no indication he intends to fulfill the option year. Boykins has until Saturday to notify the team if he plans to return.

Deal Between Carter, Nets To Be Reached By Saturday?

There is a good chance that the New Jersey Nets will sign Vince Carter for the next four years, avoiding the possibility that Carter could bolt via free agency, the New York Daily News is reporting.

Carter and the Nets likely will reach an agreement on a contract extension before Saturday, the last day Carter can opt out of the final year of his current deal.

Though team president Rod Thorn has remained publicly cautious while speaking of negotiations with Carter's camp, general manager Ed Stefanski said in a radio interview on Friday that the team "does not expect Vince to opt out."

Carter and his agent, Kurt Schoeppler, have remained mum on the subject, but all signs point toward a deal soon.

Carter has been working out regularly at the Nets' practice facility in East Rutherford, along with Jason Kidd, who has made it clear that he'd like Carter to remain his backcourt mate. Thorn admitted that Carter's presence at the Nets' headquarters is somewhat meaningful.

"I would say it's a good sign," Thorn said. "It's not a done deal type of sign, but I'd say that it's a sign that he likes it here, he likes his teammates and he wants to stay here."

According to sources, if Carter agrees to an extension before Saturday's deadline, he'll get a new deal that would keep him in New Jersey through the 2010-11 season, paying him roughly $15 million per season. His current deal calls for him to be paid just over $16 million next season. If he tested the free-agent market, Carter might be hard-pressed to get a deal longer than three years. [READ]

A Suns front office contingent of Steve Kerr, David Griffin and Vinny Del Negro traveled to Los Angeles on Monday to watch 7-foot Chinese power forward Yi Jianlian work out, further fueling the notion that Phoenix is in line to trade into the top 10 of the NBA draft.

The Suns have two workouts slated Tuesday, including a closed, multiple-team workout out for Florida's Corey Brewer, a defensive small forward; Joakim Noah, an active power forward; and versatile Georgetown small forward Jeff Green. All three are pegged as top-10 picks, but Green has refused to work out for Charlotte, which picks eighth.

Phoenix also is holding workouts today with Finnish point guard Petteri Koponen, Oregon point guard Aaron Brooks and Wisconsin small forward Alando Tucker, all of whom are visiting the Suns for a second time and project to be drafted where the Suns have picks, at Nos. 24 and 29. For Phoenix to move up, it might take at least the No. 24 pick and the 2008 Atlanta pick that the Hawks owe Phoenix. [READ]

"It would really surprise me if Marcus was traded. From everything the team is saying publicly, that's not a likely option," Kaplan said. "It makes little sense to trade Marcus. While he is the most tradable commodity, he might be their most important or second most important player at a decent price. Marcus is probably their best value.

Najera Chooses To Remain With Denver

After much deliberation, forward Eduardo Najera has decided to stay with the Nuggets.

Najera said Monday that he has decided not to opt out of the final year of his contract that pays $4.95 million next season. Mexico's lone NBA player said the deadline for his decision is Saturday and that his decision came after talking with his wife, Amy.

Najera averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds last season.

"I have a few more days, but I don't plan on opting out," Najera said in a phone interview. "Right now, I haven't changed my mind. I felt like opting out sometimes. Sometimes I say, 'Forget it.' But I talked to my wife and we decided not to opt out." [READ]
