정부가 쿠팡을 포함한 미국 디지털 기업에 대한 차별 문제를 제기하는 미 공화당 의원들의 연명 서한에 대해 답신을 발송했다.

6일 외교부에 따르면 주미 한국 대사관은 강경화 주미대사 명의로 “쿠팡 관련 조사 등 우리 정부 조치가 관련 국내법 및 규정에 따라 비차별적이고 공정하게 진행 중”이라는 내용을 담은 답신을 보냈다.

외교부 당국자는 “정부는 앞으로도 쿠팡을 포함한 미국 디지털 기업에 대한 비차별 정책을 견지하면서 관련 내용을 미 의회에 지속 설명해 나갈 예정”이라고 밝혔다.

앞서 미 공화당 하원의원 54명은 쿠팡 문제에 대해 “한국 정부가 미국 기업에 대한 표적 공격을 즉각 멈출 것을 요청한다”는 내용의 강 대사에게 보낸 서한을 지난달 21일(현지 시각) 공개했다.

이 서한 전에도 일부 미국 의원실에서 유사한 취지의 서한을 보낸 적이 있고, 외교부는 그에 대해 답신하거나 의원실을 방문해 설명해 왔다고 밝혔다.

The South Korean government has sent a response to a letter signed by U.S. Republican lawmakers raising issues of discrimination against American digital companies, including Coupang.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 6th, the South Korean Embassy in the U.S. sent a reply under the name of Ambassador to the U.S. Kang Kyung-wha, stating, “Our government’s measures, including the investigation related to Coupang, are being conducted in a non-discriminatory and fair manner in accordance with relevant domestic laws and regulations.”
