[암행어사]

1. 오늘의 묵상칼럼 : 은혜의 시선 끝에 맺히는 거룩의 열매

   창세기 6장은 온 땅에 사람의 죄악이 가득하고 마음으로 생각하는 모든 계획이 항상 악할 뿐임을 기록합니다. 온 세상이 자기 소견에 옳은 대로 행하며 파멸로 치닫던 칠흑 같은 어둠 속에서, 성경은 한 줄기 반전을 선언합니다. "그러나 노아는 여호와께 은혜를 입었더라" (창 6:8).

   세상은 언제나 우리에게 안락과 건강, 세상적인 행복을 인생의 최종 목적지로 제시합니다. 그러나 오스왈드 챔버스는 그의 묵상집 《주님은 나의 최고봉》을 통해 우리의 시선을 근본적인 부르심으로 돌려놓습니다. 그는 "하나님께서 우리를 구원하신 목적은 단순한 행복이나 건강이 아니라 거룩"이라고 단언합니다. 베드로전서 1장 16절 역시 "내가 거룩하니 너희도 거룩할지어다"라는 하나님의 지엄한 음성을 전합니다.

   노아가 하나님 앞에서 의인이요 완전한 자로 설 수 있었던 힘은 탁월한 도덕성이나 의지력에서 출발한 것이 아니었습니다. '그러나'라는 접속사가 증명하듯, 타락한 세상 속에서 하나님께서 베풀어주신 은혜를 입었기에(חֵן, Chen - 값없이 주어지는 호의와 생명) 비로소 거룩한 구별됨의 길을 걸을 수 있었습니다.

   우리가 추구하는 거룩은 세상과의 고립이나 율법적인 자기 의가 아닙니다. 그것은 하나님의 은혜에 전적으로 사로잡혀, 하나님과의 바른 관계 안에서 그분의 성품을 닮아가는 삶입니다. 건강과 행복은 하나님의 은혜 안에 머물 때 주어지는 부산물일 수 있으나 결코 신앙의 궁극적인 표대가 될 수 없습니다. 참된 성도의 부르심은 세상의 거센 조류 속에서도 하나님의 은혜를 힘입어 '거룩'이라는 본질적 푯대를 향해 묵묵히 방주를 짓는 것입니다.

2. 오늘의 묵상칼럼(영어버전) : The Fruit of Holiness Rooted in Grace

   Genesis chapter 6 portrays a world where human wickedness was widespread and every inclination of the human heart was only evil continually. Yet, into that profound moral darkness breaks a decisive turning point: "But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord" (Genesis 6:8).

   The world constantly urges us to pursue comfort, physical vitality, and earthly happiness as the ultimate measures of a successful life. Yet Oswald Chambers realigns our spiritual focus in My Utmost for His Highest, reminding us that God's ultimate design for our redemption is not mere happiness or health, but holiness. This directly echoes the divine imperative in 1 Peter 1:16: "Be holy, because I am holy."

   Noah walked blamelessly not out of sheer willpower or moral self-sufficiency, but because he received God’s unmerited favor. That divine grace empowered him to live distinctly in a corrupt generation.

   Biblical holiness is neither ascetic isolation nor self-righteous legalism; it is the natural consequence of living captivated by God’s grace and staying aligned with His character. While happiness and health may be gracious blessings along the way, they must never displace the true goal of our faith. Supported by sovereign grace, our true calling is to fix our eyes on holiness and faithfully walk with God, even against the strongest currents of our time.
