You noticed her smiling, but you couldn't smile back instinctively. Her enigmatic facial expression‎ made you feel embarrassed or even horrified. Her mouth was smiling but her eyes were communicating the other way.  You could've called it a sneer or contempt, and you bet she intended to make you feel less powerful. The thought that she was hiding sarcasm, and she would keep smiling that evil way behind your back put you into a pretty unbearable world again. But soon you came up with a determination that you defintely belong here, and it is worth unpacking a few important things behind her not so affiliative behavior. She's basically good, and she has the right to enjoy the benefit of doubt. And you'd much rather feel grateful to her for sobering you up. The symbolism attached to her smile would rather give you greater texture and context. The most sensible option for your low trust communities is self-confidence about you. And then any unfavorable signs could enrich your everyday communication experience. They're all about keeping you from getting lost in the relationship. You're in the society which is divided into various starata based on caste. You can choose to conflict with or benefit from them. Why not?
