(서울=연합뉴스) 황윤기 기자 = 이재명 대통령은 스승의날인 15일 "선생님의 열정과 사명감이 결코 사그라들지 않도록 실질적 지원과 변화를 지속적으로 만들겠다"고 약속했다.

이 대통령은 이날 페이스북에 올린 글에서 "선생님들의 노력과 헌신이 있기에 오늘의 대한민국이 존재한다"며 이같이 썼다.

이 대통령은 "교실에서의 하루하루는 결코 가볍지 않을 것"이라며 "빠르게 변화하는 교육환경 속에서 감당해야 하는 어려움과 책임 또한 점점 커지고 있다는 사실도 잘 알고 있다"고 공감을 표했다.

그러면서 "스승은 아이들의 꿈에 날개를 달아주고 다시 일어설 수 있게 힘을 북돋아 주며 때로는 부모보다 더 가까운 자리에서 성장을 지켜봐 주시는 분들"이라며 "저 역시 어린 시절 스승의 따뜻한 격려 덕분에 앞으로 나아갈 용기를 얻었다"고 덧붙였다.

이 대통령은 "지금 이 순간에도 학교와 교실에서 땀 흘리고 계실 전국의 모든 선생님께 깊은 존경과 감사의 마음을 전한다"며 "선생님들이 교육에 온전히 전념할 수 있는 더 나은 환경을 만들기 위해 최선을 다하겠다"고 강조했다.

SEOUL, May 15 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung on Friday pledged his best efforts to create conditions in which teachers can concentrate solely on teaching their students.

Lee made the pledge in a message posted on his Facebook account on Teachers' Day amid growing calls for stronger protection for teachers following a recent series of incidents where teachers were subject to abusive behavior by parents and students.
​
"I am well aware that the difficulties and responsibilities (teachers) must shoulder are increasing amid the rapidly changing educational environment," the president noted.
​
"I will do my best to create a better environment in which teachers can devote themselves entirely to education," Lee said, promising "practical support and changes" to help teachers maintain their "passion and sense of calling."
​
"Today's South Korea has been made possible by the efforts and devotion of teachers," the president also commented, expressing his "deep respect and gratitude" to teachers across the country.
