Choi Seung-ho, the branch chairman of the Samsung Electronics branch of the Early Enterprise Labor Union, stated on the same day, “The labor union sincerely engaged in the three-day post-mediation process and did our utmost to find common ground,” adding, “Around 10 p.m. on May 19, the labor union agreed to the mediation proposal presented by the National Labor Relations Commission, but the company expressed rejection.” He continued, “The labor union will lawfully commence a full-scale strike as planned tomorrow,” and emphasized, “We clearly state that we will not halt our efforts to reach a resolution even during the strike period.” Yeo Myeong-gu, DS (Device Solutions·Semiconductor Business Division) People Team Leader and representative negotiator for Samsung Electronics' management, leaves the negotiation room after stating the company's position following the breakdown of labor-management negotiations on the 20th at the Government Sejong Building National Labor Relations Commission. /Shin Hyun-jong Samsung Electronics stated in a statement on the same day, “Samsung Electronics deeply regrets that the post-mediation process has concluded,” and emphasized, “A strike must not occur under any circumstances.” They added, “The failure to reach an agreement until the final moments of the post-mediation was because accepting the labor union’s excessive demands as they are could undermine the company’s fundamental management principles,” and continued, “In particular, the union did not relent in their demand for compensation on a scale socially unacceptable for the loss-making business division, despite the company accepting most of the performance bonus scale and content.” Park Soo-keun, chairman of the National Labor Relations Commission, moves after concluding the third-day session of the second post-adjustment meeting between Samsung Electronics labor and management held in the afternoon of the 20th at the Government Sejong Building National Labor Relations Commission in Sejong City. /Shin Hyun-jong On the same day, NLRC Chairman Park Soo-keun met with reporters and said, “Although the mediation has concluded as no agreement was reached, since a resolution must be achieved eventually, we will respond whenever the labor and management agree to request mediation again.” The NLRC did not disclose the details of the mediation proposal presented to the labor and management on the same day. Regarding the performance bonus allocation ratio, where the positions between labor and management were known to differ significantly until the end, Chairman Park stated, “The union side made significant concessions on that matter.” In response to the question, “Are you considering the use of emergency mediation authority?” he answered, “That’s absurd.” The Ministry of Employment and Labor, when asked by reporters about the possibility of invoking emergency mediation authority after the post-mediation breakdown on the same day, stated, “There is still time for labor and management to engage in dialogue,” and added, “We will provide all possible support to resume dialogue rather than resorting to emergency mediation.” Earlier, Samsung Electronics labor and management held consecutive meetings on the 18th and 19th to negotiate on issues including whether to abolish the 50% cap on performance bonuses relative to annual salary, the allocation ratio of performance bonus funds, and institutionalizing such agreements, but ultimately failed to reach an agreement. · This article has been translated by Upstage Solar AI. |
