A Reading from The Book of Genesis, Chapter 24
34 So he said, “"I am Abraham’'s servant. 35The LORD has blessed
my master abundantly, and he has become wealthy. He has given him
sheep and cattle, silver and gold, menservants and maidservants, and
camels and donkeys. 36My master’'s wife Sarah has borne him a son in
her old age, and he has given him everything he owns. 37And my
master made me swear an oath, and said, ‘'You must not get a wife
for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I
live, 38 but go to my father’'s family and to my own clan, and get a wife
for my son.’'
42 “"When I came to the spring today, I said, ‘'O LORD, God of my
master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on
which I have come. 43 See, I am standing beside this spring; if a
maiden comes out to draw water and I say to her, “"Please let me
drink a little water from your jar,”" 44 and if she says to me, “"Drink,
and I’'ll draw water for your camels too,”" let her be the one the LORD has chosen for my master’'s son.’'
45 “"Before I finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out, with
her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, ‘'Please give me a drink.’'
46 “"She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said,
‘'Drink, and I’'ll water your camels too.’' So I drank, and she watered
the camels also.
47 “"I asked her, ‘'Whose daughter are you?’'
“"She said, ‘'The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milcah
bore to him.’'
“"Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms, 48
and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD, the
God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get
the granddaughter of my master’'s brother for his son. 49Now if you
will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not,
tell me, so I may know which way to turn.”"
After each Reading, the Reader may say
The Word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.
PSALMS 145:8-14
8. The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, *
slow to anger and of great kindness.
9. The LORD is loving to everyone *
and his compassion is over all his works.
10. All your works praise you, 0 LORD, *
and your faithful servants bless you.
11. They make known the glory of your kingdom *
and speak of your power;
12. That the peoples may know of your power *
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom; *
your dominion endures throughout all ages.
14. The LORD is faithful in all his words and merciful in all his deeds.
Glory to the Father, and the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in
the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen
A Reading from The Book of Romans Chapter 7
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do,
but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree
that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but
it is sin living in me. 18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is,
in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I
cannot carry it out. 19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no,
the evil I do not want to do—-this I keep on doing. 20Now if I do
what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin
living in me that does it.
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right
there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’'s law; 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war
against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of
sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who
will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—-
through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’'s law, but in the
sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
After each Reading, the Reader may say
The Word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God.
Silence may follow.
Then, all standing, the Deacon or a Priest reads the Gospel, first saying
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christaccording to Matthew
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
16 “"To what can I compare this generation? They are like children
sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “" ‘'We played the flute for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’'
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘'He has a
demon.’' 19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,
‘'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and
“"sinners.”" ’' But wisdom is proved right by her actions.”"
20Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his
miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.
21 “"Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to thisday.
24But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the
day of judgment than for you.”"
After the Gospel, the Reader says
The Gospel of the Lord.
People Praise to you, Lord Christ.
The Sermon
On Sundays and other Major Feasts there follows, all standing
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,

Silence may be kept.
Minister and People

The Holy Communion
The Great Thanksgiving - Eucharistic Prayer A
The people remain standing. The Celebrant, whether bishop or priest,
faces them and sings or says
The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Then, facing the Holy Table, the Celebrant proceeds
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere
to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of
heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first
day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious
resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life.
Here a Proper Preface is sung or said on all Sundays.
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and
Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever
sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
Celebrant and People
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
The people sit.
Then the Celebrant continues
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us
for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become
subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus
Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human
nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the
God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself,
in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole
world.
At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebrant is to hold it,
or lay a hand upon it; and at the words concerning the cup, to hold or
place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing wine to be consecrated.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our
Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks
to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “"Take, eat:
This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given
thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “"Drink this, all of you:
This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you
and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink
it, do this for the remembrance of me.”"
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Celebrant and People
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
The Celebrant continues
We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in
this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death,
resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the
Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new
and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully
receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and
peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.
All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him,
and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor
and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. AMEN.
And now, as our Savior As our Savior Christ
Christ has taught us, has taught us,
we are bold to say, we now pray,

Recessional –- Be Thou My Vision
Be Thou my vision, oh Lord of my heart
Nought be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father and I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one
Riches I need not, nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only first in my heart
High king of heaven my treasure Thou art
Be Thou my vision, oh Lord of my heart
Nought be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
High king of heaven, my victory won
May I reach heaven's joy, bright heaven sun
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, oh ruler of all
Still be my vision, oh ruler of all
