Then, they went to the clothing store. While Ruby was picking out clothes, Max disappeared because of the dragon shirt.

Ruby continued to look for Max, and Max continued to follow the dragon shirt and eventually wore it.

They found each other, and Ruby told Max they had to buy overalls.
However, Max got ice cream on his dragon shirt.

Eventually, Ruby bought it for five dollars.

I think Max is smart.
