Become a Fountain of Grace
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
(Ephesians 2:8)
The salvation we have received is not something we earned through our efforts or deserved because of our qualifications. Salvation is entirely the grace of God, received through faith as His precious gift. Therefore, the Christian life is not about striving to earn God's approval. It is about living in gratitude for the grace we have already received.
Jesus gave us a wonderful promise in John 4:14:
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Oswald Chambers reminds us that the picture Jesus gives is not merely that of a channel through which water flows, but of an overflowing fountain. A channel receives water from somewhere else and carries it onward, but a fountain springs up from within.
This is the picture of a person who has received God's grace.
We are not called to manufacture love by our own strength, force ourselves to be joyful, or struggle to become a blessing to others through human effort. Rather, we are called to allow the life of Jesus Christ within us to flow through us.
The important question, therefore, is not how much we possess. The important question is: How closely are we connected to Jesus, the Source of living water?
There are times when the fountain of grace within us seems to have dried up. We want to love, but love does not come easily. We want to pray, but our hearts feel dry. We want to bless others, but we ourselves are tired and weary.
At such times, we should not simply try harder to produce something from ourselves. Instead, we must return to the Source.
Come near to Jesus.
Remember once again that your salvation is the gift of God. Confess that you are not living by your own strength but by His grace. As you remain connected to Christ, His life will begin to spring up within you again.
We are not the source of living water. Jesus is the Source. Yet He desires for His living water to flow through us and bring life to others.
Today, do not stop at merely receiving God's grace. Let that grace flow through you. Let the joy of salvation flow into your family, your church, and the lives of everyone you meet.
May our lives today become not merely channels that carry water, but fountains of grace from which the living water of Jesus Christ continually springs forth.
Prayer:
Lord, remove everything within me that hinders the flow of Your living water. Help me remain deeply connected to Jesus, the Source of life. May the grace of salvation I have received not remain only within me, but flow through me and become a fountain of life and blessing to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
