(서울=연합뉴스) 황윤기 기자 = 이재명 대통령은 23일 북한 내고향여자축구단의 아시아축구연맹(AFC) 여자 챔피언스리그 우승 소식에 소셜미디어(SNS)를 통해 축하의 뜻을 전했다.

이 대통령은 이날 오후 엑스(X·옛 트위터)에 올린 글에서 "내고향여자축구단 선수 여러분께 진심 어린 축하를 전한다"고 말했다.

이어 "공은 둥글고, 우리는 또다시 만나게 될 것"이라며 "선수 여러분의 다음 도전을 힘차게 응원하겠다"고 했다.

이 대통령은 아울러 "뜨거운 관심 속에 펼쳐진 수원FC 위민 선수들의 수중전 투혼 역시 오래도록 기억될 것"이라며 "성숙한 응원 문화로 대회를 빛내주신 응원단 여러분께도 깊은 경의를 표한다"고 덧붙였다.

내고향여자축구단은 이날 오후 수원종합운동장에서 열린 2025-2026시즌 AFC 여자 챔피언스리그(AWCL) 결승전에서 도쿄 베르디 벨레자에 1-0으로 이겼다.

한국의 수원FC위민은 지난 20일 내고향여자축구단과 준결승에서 맞붙었으나 1-2로 패배했다. 이번 내고향여자축구단의 방남을 앞두고 국내에서는 민간이 주도한 '남북공동응원단'이 꾸려져 화제를 모으기도 했다.

SEOUL, May 23 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung congratulated North Korea's Naegohyang Women's FC on Saturday on winning the top Asian women's football title on South Korean soil.

In a message on social media platform X, Lee said he "sincerely congratulates" the players, who defeated Tokyo Verdy Beleza 1-0 in the final of the Asian Football Confederation Women's Champions League at Suwon Stadium in Suwon, 30 kilometers south of Seoul, earlier in the day.

"The high-class matches played at the Champions League clearly showed the world the remarkable development and ability of Asian women's football," he wrote.
​
"I hope this contest, beyond victory or defeat, was a meaningful occasion to promote a leap for Asian sports and reflect on the values of sports, known as peace and harmony."
​
Lee also said the North Korean players' "fighting spirit" displayed in a previous rain-soaked match will be remembered for a long time.
​
To the South Korean cheering squad that supported both the South Korean and North Korean teams, he expressed his "deep respect" for showing a "mature cheering culture."

"The ball is round, and we will meet again," he said. "I will wholeheartedly root for the players' next challenge!"
