1.Sunday of Lent ‘C’

Lk 4, 1-13.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ!

We have already entered in to the season of lent. Today is the first Sunday of the Lent. We have heard in the Gosple reading that even Jesus is not free from being tempted. The Tempter attacks him at the very onset of his mission. In today’s Gospel, we read that after Jesus was baptized “the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Tempter; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him” . The desert was the school where Jesus came to distinguish between the voice of God that he should follow and the voice of temper, which is temptation. Today we come across three different temptations of Jesus in the desert.

The first temptation of Jesus: to turn stones into bread.

Jesus had been fasting for forty days. He was hungry. By obeying the tempter he would not only satisfy his hunger but also would feed the multitudes with free food. The Tempter wanted him to use his power for selfish ends, to satisfy his own needs. Jesus resists the Tempter by allowing only God to satisfy his needs. It signifies that only God the Father is the most powerful and we must obey him only.

The second temptation: throw yourself dawn.

The Tempter tempts Jesus to carry his mission through instant success by a spectacular use of supernatural powers without the cross. This feat of jumping off the parapet of the Temple, and still being unhurt, would increase faith in the disciples that he was really God's Son. This would be a quicker way of establishing God's reign, for that was the mission of Jesus. Jesus resisted the Tempter. He had not come to become popular among the people but to reveal his Father's love and will to them, thus obey only heavenly Father.

The third temptation: to worship the Tempter.

“I will give you this entire if you kneel down and warship me. Warship me, not God, and you can possess the earth.” Jesus chose to serve only one Master, God.

The three temptations seem different and yet they are just variations of the one great single temptation to declare Jesus independent of God, but Jesus knew tempter’s intention and he made a right choice to save the world from the clutches of Satan.

The conflict in choices

My dear friends we often find conflicts in different choices, and every temptation, involves a choice. A choice for or against God. To do good or to do evil. A choice to live for myself instead of for others. A choice to choose life or death (2Kgs 18:32). It is up to each one of us to make the right choice. The temptation to go against the plans of God comes under the pretention of good, attractive and interesting proposals.

The Choice for God is a difficult choice, because it involves a price. It is the price of giving away power, wealth and pleasure and inviting insecurity, pain and suffering. do we do the same or are we self-centered?. The self-centeredness forces us to make wrong choices.

Therefore, the best weapon to choose good is to listen voice of God. Before beginning the mission entrusted by the Father, Jesus went into solitude to pray and fast. These were days in communion with the Father. They were days of reflecting on his love and care, He resists the Tempter in light of Scripture "Not on bread alone shall man live. You shall not test the Lord your God. Worship the Lord your God and serve him.” That gave him all the strength to make choices for God.

The Season of Lent provides us with an opportunity to look at ourselves and review our choices. Let us constantly listen to God, who speaks to us through His life-giving Word.- the most powerful weapon on earth no enemy can ever defeat. The same Lord who was severely subjected to all temptations is calling us through today’s readings. He invites us to join him as he battles the Tempter with us. May that same Spirit of the Lord who led Jesus in the desert, lead us into this season of Grace to make choices for God's kingdom.

Prayer: Lord heavenly Father, we ask your blessings in this Lenten season, a time of prayer fasting and almsgiving and reconciliations with God and others. Give us the strength that we will be able to withstand with the temptations in our life. Amen.

사순 제 1주일 (루카복음4,1-13.)

사랑하는 형제자매 여러분

우리는 이미 사순절에 들어섰습니다. 오늘은 사순절의 첫 번째 일요일입니다.

오늘 복음서에서는 예수님도 유혹에서 자유롭지 않으셨다는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.
악마는 예수님의 첫 공생활을 준비하기 시작 전부터 그를 유혹하기 시작합니다.
예수님은 세례를 받으신 후, 성령에 이끌려 광야로 가셨고, 그곳에서 40일 동안 악마에게 유혹을
받았습니다. 예수님 곁에는 들짐승들과 천사들이 그의 함께 있었습니다.

광야는 예수님이 하느님의 음성과 악마의 유혹을 분별해야 하는 곳이었습니다.
오늘 우리는 광야에서 예수님이 받은 세 가지 다른 유혹을 마주하게 됩니다.

예수님의 첫 번째 유혹: 돌을 빵으로 만들어라.
예수님은 40일 동안 금식 하셨습니다. 그는 배가 고팠습니다.
악마의 유혹에 복종하면 그는 배고픔을 채울 뿐만 아니라 다른 이들까지도 먹여 살릴 수 있었습니다.
악마는 그의 이기적인 목적을 위해 예수님 본인이 필요한 것에 악마 자신의 힘을 사용하길 원했습니다.
하지만, 예수님은 악마의 유혹에 저항하며, 오직 하느님만이 자신의 필요를 충족시키도록 허락하십니다. 이는 하느님만이 가장 강하시며, 우리는 오직 그분께만 순종해야 함을 의미합니다.

두번째 유혹: 성전에서 뛰어 내려라.
악마는 자신의 힘을 사용해 예수님의 사명을 수행하도록 유혹합니다.
성전 난간에서 뛰어내리고도 다치지 않는다면 제자들은 그가 실제로 하느님의 아들이라는 믿음에
더한 확신을 줄 것이고, 또한 이것은 하느님의 계획을 이루는데 더 빠른 방법이 될 것이라 합니다. 왜냐하면 그것이 예수님의 사명이었기 때문입니다.
하지만, 예수님은 악마의 유혹을 물리칩니다. 그는 사람들에게서 자신의 영광을 얻기 위해 온 것이 아니라 그들에게 아버지의 사랑과 뜻을 드러내고 오직 하늘에 계신 아버지께만 순종하기 위해 오셨기 때문입니다.

세번째 유혹: 악마를 공경하여라. 

악마는 "무릎을 꿇고 나를 공경하면 이 모든 것을 주겠다. 하느님이 아니라 나를 공경하면 이 땅을 차지할 수 있다."고 유혹합니다.
하지만. 예수님은 오직 한 분의 주인이신, 하느님을 섬기기로 선택하셨습니다.
이 세 가지 유혹은 달라 보이지만, 예수님을 하느님으로부터 멀어지게 하기 위한 여러 변형의 유혹 일
뿐입니다. 예수님은 이미 악마의 의도를 알고 계셨고, 사탄의 손아귀에서 세상을 구하기 위해 올바른
선택을 하셨습니다.

선택의 갈등
사랑하는 형제자매 여러분, 우리는 종종 다양한 선택의 기로에서 갈등과 유혹을 발견합니다.

하느님을 위한 선택인지 아니면 반대하는 선택인지,
선을 위한 것인지 악을 위한 것인지,
다른 사람을 위해서가 아니라 나 자신을 위해 살 것인지,
먹고 살고 죽는 생사를 위한 선택을 할 것인지(2열왕18:32),

올바른 선택을 하는 것은 우리 각자의 몫입니다.

하느님의 계획에 어긋나는 유혹은 선하고 매력적이며 흥미로운 제안이라는 명목으로 다가옵니다.
그것은 권력과 부, 그리고 쾌락을 주며 불안, 고통, 괴로움을 불러 일으킵니다.

하느님을 위한 선택은 대가를 수반하기 때문에 어려운 선택입니다.

우리는 어떤 선택을 하고 있나요? 자기 중심적인 선택을 하고 있습니까?
자기 중심적인 것은 우리가 잘못된 선택을 하도록 합니다.

그러므로 선을 택하는 가장 좋은 무기는 하느님의 음성을 듣는 것입니다.
하느님께서 맡기신 사명을 시작하기 전에 예수님은 침묵 속으로 들어가 기도하고 금식하셨습니다.
이 날들은 하느님과 함께하는 시간이었습니다.
그분의 사랑과 보살핌 안에서 그를 되돌아보며 성찰하셨고 성경의 빛으로 악마의 유혹을
물리치셨습니다.
"사람은 빵만으로 살수 없다. 너희 하느님을 시험해선 안 된다.
우리 주 하느님을 섬기고 경배하여라."
그것은 예수님에게 하느님을 선택할 수 있는 힘을 주었습니다.

사순절은 우리 자신을 돌아보고 우리의 선택을 되돌아볼 수 있는 기회를 줍니다.
생명을 주시는 말씀을 통해 우리에게 하시려는 하느님의 말씀을 끊임없이 경청합시다.
그 말씀은 이 세상에서 어떠한 적도 이길 수 없는 가장 강력한 무기입니다.

모든 유혹에 시달리신 주님께서는 오늘의 독서를 통해 우리를 부르십니다.
예수님께서 우리와 함께 악마와 싸우는데 동참하라고 우리를 초대하십니다.
광야에서 예수님을 인도하신 그 성령께서 우리도 은혜로운 오늘의 사순절로 이끄시어 하느님 나라를
갈망하게 해주시기를 바랍시다.

기도합시다.
하늘에 계신 아버지, 당신께 간구 하오니
이 사순절날, 기도하고 금식을 통해 하느님과 다른 이들과 화해하는 시간을 갖게 하소서.
우리 삶의 유혹을 견딜 수 있는 힘을 주시고 축복해 주소서. 아멘
