1. 사무엘이 또한 사울에게 이르되, {주}께서 나를 보내사 왕에게 기름을 부어 자신의 백성 곧 이스라엘을 다스릴

    왕으로 삼으셨사오니 그런즉 이제 왕은 {주}의 말씀들의 음성에 귀를 기울이소서.

Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee [to be] king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

2. 만군의 {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 아말렉이 이스라엘에게 행한 일 곧 이스라엘이 이집트에서 나올 때에 그가 길에서

    숨어 그를 기다린 일을 내가 기억하나니

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember [that] which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid [wait] for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

3. 지금 가서 아말렉을 쳐서 그들이 가진 모든 것을 진멸하고 남기지 말며 남자와 여자와 어린 아기와 젖먹이와 소와

    양과 낙타와 나귀를 죽이라, 하매

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

4. 사울이 백성을 함께 모으고 들라임에서 그들의 수를 세니 보병이 이십만 명이요, 유다 사람이 만 명이더라.

And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

5. 사울이 아말렉의 도시에 이르러 골짜기에서 숨어 기다리니라.

And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley. 

6. 사울이 겐 족속에게 이르되, 가라. 떠나라. 너희는 아말렉 족속 가운데서 떠나 내려가라. 내가 그들과 함께 너희를

    멸할까 염려하노라. 온 이스라엘 자손이 이집트에서 나와 올라올 때에 너희가 그들에게 친절을 베풀었느니라, 하니

    이에 겐 족속이 아말렉 족속 가운데서 떠나니라.

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

7. 사울이 하윌라에서부터 네가 이집트 맞은편에 있는 수르에 이르기까지 아말렉 족속을 치고

And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah [until] thou comest to Shur, that [is] over against Egypt.

8. 아말렉 족속의 왕 아각을 산 채로 잡으며 칼날로 그 모든 백성을 진멸하니라.

And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

9.그러나 사울과 백성이 아각과 또 양과 소와 살진 것 중에서 가장 좋은 것과 어린양과 모든 좋은 것을 남기고 그것들을

    진멸하려 하지 아니하고 다만 나쁘고 가치 없는 것만 다 진멸하니라.

But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all [that was] good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing [that was] vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly. 

10. 그때에 {주}의 말씀이 사무엘에게 임하니라. 이르시되,

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,

11. 내가 사울을 왕으로 삼은 것으로 인해 슬퍼하노니 그가 나를 따르는 것에서 돌이켜 내 명령을 수행하지

      아니하였느니라, 하시니라. 그것으로 인해 사무엘이 근심하여 온 밤을 {주}께 부르짖으니라.

It repenteth me that I have set up Saul [to be] king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

12. 사무엘이 사울을 만나려고 아침에 일찍 일어났더니 어떤 이가 사무엘에게 고하여 이르되, 사울이 갈멜에

      이르렀는데, 보소서, 그가 자기를 위해 처소를 세우고 가서 진행하여 길갈로 내려갔나이다, 하니라.

And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

13. 사무엘이 사울에게 이른즉 사울이 그에게 이르되, {주}께서 당신에게 복 주시기를 원하나이다. 내가 {주}의 명령을

      수행하였나이다, 하매

And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed [be] thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.

14. 사무엘이 이르되, 그러면 내 귀에 들어오는 이 양들의 울음소리와 또 내게 들리는 소들의 울음소리는 무엇을

      뜻하나이까? 하니

And Samuel said, What [meaneth] then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

15. 사울이 이르되, 그들이 그것들을 아말렉 족속에게서 끌어왔나이다. 백성이 {주} 당신의 [하나님]께 희생물을

      드리려고 양과 소들 중에서 가장 좋은 것을 남겼으며 나머지는 우리가 진멸하였나이다, 하매

And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

16. 그때에 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되, 가만히 계시옵소서. 이 밤에 {주}께서 내게 말씀하신 것을 내가 왕에게

      고하리이다, 하니 그가 그에게 이르되, 말씀하소서, 하니라.

Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

17. 사무엘이 이르되, 왕이 스스로 보기에 작았을 때에 이스라엘 지파들의 머리가 되셨고 {주}께서 왕에게 기름을 부어

      이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 삼지 아니하셨나이까?

And Samuel said, When thou [wast] little in thine own sight, [wast] thou not [made] the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

18. 또 {주}께서 왕을 보내 이동하게 하시며 말씀하시기를, 가서 죄인인 아말렉 족속을 진멸하되 그들이 소멸되기까지

      그들과 싸우라, 하셨나이다.

And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. 

19.그런데 어찌하여 왕이 {주}의 음성에 순종치 아니하고 노략물에만 날아가 {주}의 눈앞에서 악한 일을 행하였나이까?

     하니

Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

20. 사울이 사무엘에게 이르되, 참으로 나는 {주}의 음성에 순종하여 {주}께서 나를 보내신 길로 가서 아말렉 왕 아각을

      끌어왔고 아말렉 족속을 진멸하였으나

And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

21. 다만 백성이 길갈에서 {주} 당신의 [하나님]께 희생물을 드리려고 노략물 중에서 양과 소와 또 마땅히 진멸시켜야

      할 것들 중에서 가장 좋은 것을 취하였나이다, 하매

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

22. 사무엘이 이르되, {주}께서 {주}의 음성에 순종하는 것만큼 번제 헌물과 희생물을 크게 기뻐하시나이까? 보소서,

      순종이 희생 헌물보다 낫고 귀를 기울이는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 나으니

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD [as great] delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice, [and] to hearken than the fat of rams.

23. 거역하는 것은 마술 죄와 같고 완고한 것은 불법과 우상 숭배와 같나이다. 왕이 {주}의 말씀을 버렸으므로

      그분께서도 왕을 버려 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨나이다, 하더라.

For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness [is as] iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from [being] king. 

24. 사울이 사무엘에게 이르되, 내가 죄를 지었나이다. 내가 백성을 두려워하고 그들의 음성에 순종한 까닭에 {주}의

      명령과 당신의 말씀들을 어겼나이다.

And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

25. 그러므로 이제 원하오니 내 죄를 용서하시고 나와 함께 돌아가서 내가 {주}께 경배하게 하소서, 하매

Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

26. 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되, 나는 왕과 함께 돌아가지 아니하리니 왕이 {주}의 말씀을 버렸으므로 {주}께서 왕을

      버려 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨나이다, 하니라.

And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

27. 사무엘이 가려고 돌이킬 때에 그가 그의 겉옷 자락을 붙잡으매 그것이 찢어지므로

And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

28. 사무엘이 그에게 이르되, {주}께서 이 날에 이스라엘 왕국을 왕에게서 찢어 왕보다 나은 왕의 이웃에게 주셨나이다.

And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, [that is] better than thou.

29. 또한 이스라엘의 힘이신 이는 거짓말을 하거나 뜻을 돌이키지 아니하시리니 그분은 사람이 아니므로 뜻을

      돌이키지 아니하시나이다.

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he [is] not a man, that he should repent. 

30. 그때에 사울이 이르되, 내가 죄를 지었을지라도 원하건대 이제 내 백성의 장로들 앞과 이스라엘 앞에서 나를

      존중히 여기사 나와 함께 돌아가서 내가 {주} 당신의 [하나님]께 경배하게 하소서, 하니

Then he said, I have sinned: [yet] honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.

31. 이에 사무엘이 돌이켜서 사울을 따라가매 사울이 {주}께 경배하니라.

So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

32. 그때에 사무엘이 이르되, 너희는 아말렉 족속의 왕 아각을 여기로 내게로 데려오라, 하니 아각이 기분 좋게 그에게

      오며 이르되, 분명히 사망의 쓰라림이 지나갔도다, 하니라.

Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

33. 사무엘이 이르되, 네 칼이 여인들로 하여금 자식이 없게 한 것 같이 여인들 가운데서 네 어미가 자식이 없으리라,

      하고 사무엘이 길갈에서 {주} 앞에서 아각을 찍어 토막을 내니라.

And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

34. 그때에 사무엘은 라마로 가고 사울은 사울의 기브아에 있던 자기 집으로 올라가니라.

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

35. 사무엘이 자기가 죽는 날까지 사울을 보려고 다시 가지 아니하였으나 그럼에도 불구하고 사울을 위하여

      애곡하였더라. {주}께서는 자신이 사울을 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 삼으신 것으로 인해 슬퍼하셨더라.

And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
