SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) -- ​President Lee Jae Myung said Sunday he will not tolerate those who insult victims and bereaved families of man-made disasters.
이재명 대통령은 일요일에 인재로 인한 희생자와 유가족을 모욕하는 사람들을 용납하지 않겠다고 말했습니다.

"I will order authorities to thoroughly investigate and sternly punish" anyone who does so, he said, citing a recent case in which a man in his 50s was arrested for allegedly posting more than 3,000 defamatory messages targeting victims and their families of the 2014 Sewol ferry sinking, the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush and the 2024 Jeju Air crash.
이재명 대통령은 최근 한 50대 남성이 2014년 세월호 침몰, 2022년 이태원 참사, 2024년 제주항공 추락 사고 피해자와 그 가족을 겨냥해 3,000개 이상의 명예훼손성 메시지를 게시한 혐의로 체포된 사건을 예로 들며, "당국에 철저한 조사와 엄중한 처벌을 명령하겠다"고 말했습니다.

"Why on earth would someone do this?" Lee wrote on X. "He should put himself in their shoes; imagine if his family were among the victims."
"도대체 누가 왜 이런 짓을 하겠어요?" 리는 X에 이렇게 썼습니다. "이재명 대통령은 자신의 입장이 되어야 합니다. 만약 그들 가족이 피해자 중 하나라면 상상해 보세요."

The man was arrested the previous day for allegedly spreading defamatory content and groundless allegations against victims and their families on major online forums since 2022.
(명예훼손성 메시지를 게시한 혐의로 체포된) 이 남성은 2022년부터 주요 온라인 포럼에 피해자와 그 가족에 대한 명예훼손적인 내용과 근거 없는 주장을 퍼뜨린 혐의로 전날 체포되었습니다.

The case marked the third case where a suspect was arrested since police established a special investigation team in July, at Lee's direction, to crack down on those who inflict secondary harm on disaster victims and their families.
이 사건은 지난 7월 경찰이 이재명 대통령의 지시에 따라 특별수사팀을 구성해 재난 피해자와 그 가족에게 2차 피해를 입힌 사람들을 단속한 이후 용의자가 체포된 세 번째 사건입니다.
