이재명 대통령이 연일 지방선거 투표를 독려하고 나섰습니다.

이번엔 투표 포기는 권력을 남용한 자들에게 기회를 주는 것이라며 사전 투표에 이어 본투표에서의 적극적인 참여를 당부했습니다.

This time, he asked for active participation in the main vote following early voting, saying that giving up voting gives opportunities to those who abuse power.

이재명 대통령이 이틀 연속 투표 참여를 당부하는 공개 메시지를 내놓았습니다.

President Lee Jae-myung has issued a public message asking people to participate in the vote for two consecutive days.

이재명 대통령은 자신의 SNS를 통해 "민주공화국에서 주권자의 침묵과 투표 포기는 국민을 속이고 사익(私益)을 위해 권력을 남용한 자들에게 기회를 주는 것"이라고 강조했습니다.

"In a democratic republic, the silence of the sovereign and the abandonment of the vote is to deceive the people and give opportunities to those who abuse their power for private interests," President Lee said on his SNS.

그러면서 "정치 무관심의 대가는 최악의 저질들에게 지배당하는 것"이라는 그리스 철학자 플라톤의 발언을 인용했습니다.

He quoted the Greek philosopher Plato's statement that "the price of political indifference is to be dominated by the worst of the worst."

이어 "국민이 맡긴 권력을 오로지 국민의 뜻에 따라 국민 만을 위해 사용할, 충직하고 유능한 이들을 찾아 기회를 주시기 바란다"며 적극적인 투표 참여를 당부했습니다.

He then asked for active participation in the vote, saying, "Please find faithful and competent people who will use the power entrusted by the people only for the people's will."

또 "투표의 힘은 생각보다 강하다"며 "선출된 그들이 충직한 머슴이 될 지, 악성 지배자가 될 지는 주권자의 손에 달려 있다"고 언급하기도 했습니다.

He also said, "The power of voting is stronger than expected," adding, "It is in the hands of the sovereign whether they will be faithful servants or malicious rulers."

아울러 "이 말이 불편한 정치인이나 정치집단이 있다면 주권자가 투표로서 극복해야할 구태 기득권자들"이라고 지적했습니다.

In addition, he pointed out, "If there are politicians or political groups who are uncomfortable with this, the sovereign is the old vested interests that must be overcome by voting."

앞서 전날에도 이 대통령은 "투표는 민주주의의 생명줄"이라며 사전투표를 독려했습니다.

Earlier on the previous day, President Lee encouraged early voting, saying, "Voting is the lifeline of democracy."​

이번 지방선거의 사전투표율은 최종 23.51%로 역대 지방선거 가운데 최고치를 기록했습니다.

Early voter turnout in this local election was 23.51 percent, the highest ever among local elections.

이런 가운데, 이재명 대통령의 사전투표 당시 발생했던 이른바 '투표용지 노출' 논란의 여진도 이어지고 있습니다.

In the midst of this, there is also an aftershock of the so-called "ballot exposure" controversy that occurred during President Lee's early voting.

중앙선관위는 법적으로 문제 없다고 확인했고 여권에서도 적극 옹호에 나섰지만, 국민의힘은 "심각한 선거개입"이라며 비판의 고삐를 한껏 조이는 상황입니다.

The Central Election Commission confirmed that there was no legal problem and the ruling camp actively defended it, but the power of the people is tightening the reins of criticism, saying it is a "serious election intervention."
