Tall field buttercup is a perennial plant found in the eastern U.S. and from western British Columbia south to Oregon. The simple stem grows 1 to 3 feet / 6 to 18 inches / 6 to 18 inches high and bears palmately compound, sharply incised, downy leaves on long petioles which are dilated at the base (some of the upper leaves may be nearly sessile). The shiny yellow flowers for which the plant is named appear from May to September / July / November.

Acrid, anodyne, antispasmodic, diaphoretic, rubefacient. Tall field buttercup is used like the pasque flower. Only the fresh plant is poisonous and effective medicinally. A homeopathic extract of the fresh plant is used for skin diseases, rheumatism, sciatica, arthritis, and rhinitis.
