Dear Guardian Tales development team:
Hello!
As a long-term supporter of the game, I have paid attention to the community's discussion on the "Summer Horror Branch". I understand that the team wants to break through the creative boundaries, but some directions may touch on sensitive historical issues (such as 731 related), which will not only hurt the feelings of players from many countries, but also may cause the game to fall into public opinion controversy.
Based on my love for the game, I would like to share the creative direction of "retaining the horror fun while avoiding acclimatization" for the team's reference:
▌Why avoid it?
731 Unit is an anti-human atrocity, carrying the painful memories of tens of millions of victims. If the game involves such content, it will be regarded as "historical disrespect", triggering strong resistance from players in China, South Korea and other countries-this is contrary to the team's goal of "creating long-term popular works".
▌How can Summer Horror be played? (5 safe and exciting directions)
Combining summer scenes + universal horror elements, it is both in line with the season and can make global players empathize:
1. "Pool Horror: Eternal Night Drowning"
- Setting: Abandoned swimming pool at a sea resort, where a "mass drowning case" once occurred. Every midnight, the swimming pool space will be "distorted" - players can't swim to the end, ghosts appear in the mirror in the locker room, and skeletons wrapped in water plants are hidden under the water...
- Horror points: the suffocating feeling of water, time and space loops (similar to "Horror Cruise", with puzzles added), and the psychological oppression of "boiling frogs in warm water" (such as the pool water gradually turning red).
2. "Summer Camp Curse: Disappearing Children"
- Setting: A "mass disappearance of children" occurred in a summer camp in the mountains, and only the bloody camp flag was left at the scene. The player returns to the camp and finds children laughing in the tent at night, and a group photo from the past emerges from the ashes of the campfire - and the truth is related to the "wishing stone curse"...
- Gameplay extension: environmental interaction (camp facilities "rewind time" with exploration), hidden sacrificial rituals (such as using props collected by players to restore the scene of the year).
3. "Seaside Ghost Stories: The Grudge of the Sea Festival"
- Setting: The fishing village near the sea relies on the "Midsummer Sea Festival" to pacify the sea monster. This year's sacrifice was interrupted, and the fishing village appeared "kelp entangled corpses" and "fishing boats automatically returned to port" - players discovered that the sea monster was transformed by the "grudges of the villagers who were sacrificed"...
- Visual symbols: wet kelp, rotten catch, moonlight ghost ship, combined with tidal puzzles (unlock new areas when the tide is high).
4. "Retro Carnival: 80s Ghost Park"
- Setting: Abandoned 80s amusement park, closed due to a roller coaster accident. After the player enters, the neon lights flash strangely, and the carousel starts automatically - and the "survivor ghost" of the accident that year is guiding the player to uncover the truth that "the boss created the accident for insurance money"...
- Retro contrast: disco music + faulty amusement facilities (such as bumper cars that suddenly start to attack players), using "horror in a joyful background" to create a contrast.
5. "Local Legend: Midsummer Ghost Gate"
- Setting: Combined with the Korean folk custom "The ghost gate opens in the dog days of summer", every midsummer, ghosts invade the village through the "ghost gate". Players need to help the villagers complete the sacrificial seal, encountering possessed villagers, moving paper people, and even stepping into the "hell scene" in the process...
- Advantages: Localized stories are more likely to resonate with Korean players, while avoiding sensitive history and using folk horror to create a unique sense.
These ideas not only retain the core of "horror + summer", but also safely meet players' expectations for "horror side quests" through fictional folklore, urban legends or retro settings.
Finally, thank the team for their continued dedication! I hope that Guardian Tales will continue to impress players with its creativity, and I hope these suggestions can provide inspiration for the team.
Sincerely,
Salute!
