무엇이 성공인가(What is a success)

계율을 지키는 자는 목표에 이르지 못했어도 성공한 자다.

지금 이후나 다음 생에 좋은 결과가 상속되기 때문이다.

He who keeps moralities is a man of success, even if he does not reach the goal.

This is why a good effect is continuously going on from now or next life.

계율을 지키지 않는 자는 목표를 성취했어도 실패한 자다.

지금 이후나 다음 생에 나쁜 결과가 상속되기 때문이다.

He who does not keep moralities is a man of failure, even if he reaches the goal.

This is why a bad effect is continuously going on from now or next life. 

세상에서 말하는 성공은 재산과 사회적 지위와 드높은

명예를 얻는 것이지만 이것들은 진정한 성공이 아니다.

The worldly success is to gain the property, social position and higher honor

But this is not true success.

부당한 방법으로 이룬 재산과 명예는 썰물처럼 사라지며

바르고 선한 노력으로 이룬 것만이 진정한 가치가 있다.

One's unfair of attaining property and honor vanishes like the ebb,

An only thing to gain through right and good effort has the true value.

진정한 성공은 눈에 보이지 않는 재산을 쌓는 것으로

죽을 때 가지고 가는 계율의 청정함과 선한 공덕이다.

True success is to accumulate invisible property.

It is the purity of moralities and merits.

이러한 성공을 위해서 필요한 것이 지혜를 얻는 수행이다.

지혜 수행은 선에 취하지 않고 불선을 벌하지 않는다.

The need for such a success is meditation to gain the wisdom.

The wisdom practice is not intoxicated with the Good and not punished for the Not Good.

진정한 성공은 자신의 번뇌를 해결할 수 있는 지혜를 얻어

고통에서 벗어나서 언제나 평안한 마음을 갖는 것이다.

 True success is to gain wisdom by resolving one's agony

And to get out of suffering, one must always have calm mind.
