1. 다윗이 라마의 나욧에서 도망하여 가서 요나단 앞에서 이르되, 내가 무엇을 하였느냐? 내 불법이 무엇이냐?

    네 아버지 앞에서 내 죄가 무엇이기에 그가 내 생명을 찾느냐? 하니

And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what [is] mine iniquity? and what [is] my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?

2. 요나단이 그에게 이르되, 결단코 아니라. 네가 죽지 아니하리라. 보라, 내 아버지가 큰일이든 작은 일이든 내게 알려

    주지 않고서는 아무 일도 하려 하지 아니하시나니 내 아버지가 어찌하여 이 일은 내게 숨기시리요?

    그렇지 아니하니라, 하매

And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it [is] not [so]. 

3. 다윗이 또 맹세하여 이르되, 내가 네 눈에 은혜를 입은 줄을 네 아버지가 확실히 알고 말하기를, 요나단이 근심할까

    염려가 되므로 그가 이것을 알게 하지 아니하리라, 하느니라. 그러나 진실로 {주}께서 살아 계심과 네 혼이 살아

    있음을 두고 맹세하노니 나와 죽음 사이에는 단 한 걸음만 있느니라.

And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly [as] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, [there is] but a step between me and death.

4. 이에 요나단이 다윗에게 이르되, 네 혼이 무엇을 원하든지 내가 너를 위하여 그것을 행하리라, 하니

Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do [it] for thee. 

5. 다윗이 요나단에게 이르되, 보라, 내일은 월삭인즉 내가 반드시 왕과 함께 식탁에 앉아야 할 터이나 부디 나를 가게

    하여 내가 셋째 날 저녁까지 들에 숨게 하고

And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow [is] the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third [day] at even.

6. 네 아버지가 만일 나를 섭섭히 생각하거든 그때에 말하기를, 다윗이 자기 도시 베들레헴으로 달려가기 위해 내게서

    떠날 것을 간절히 요청하였사오니 그들이 거기서 온 가족을 위하여 해마다 희생물을 드리나이다, 하라.

If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked [leave] of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for [there is] a yearly sacrifice there for all the family. 

7. 만일 그가 이같이 말하기를, 좋다, 하면 네 종에게 평강이 있으려니와 그가 만일 심히 노하면 그가 악을 결심한 줄을

    확실히 알지니

If he say thus, [It is] well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, [then] be sure that evil is determined by him.

8.그런즉 너는 네 종에게 친절히 대하라. 네가 네 종을 너와 함께 {주}의 언약 안으로 이끌었느니라. 그럼에도 불구하고

   내 안에 불법이 있거든 네가 직접 나를 죽이라. 어찌하여 네가 나를 네 아버지에게로 데려가야 하겠느냐? 하매

Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?

9. 요나단이 이르되, 그 일이 결코 네게 있지 아니하리라. 내 아버지가 네게 악이 임하도록 결심한 것을 내가 확실히

    알면 내가 그것을 네게 고하지 아니하겠느냐? 하니

And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?

10. 그때에 다윗이 요나단에게 이르되, 누가 그것을 고하겠느냐? 혹은 네 아버지가 네게 거칠게 대답하면

      어찌하겠느냐? 하더라.

Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what [if] thy father answer thee roughly?

11. 요나단이 다윗에게 이르되, 오라, 우리가 들로 가자, 하고 그들 두 사람이 들로 가니라.

And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

12. 요나단이 다윗에게 이르되, 오 {주} 이스라엘의 [하나님]이여, 내가 내일 아무 때나 혹은 셋째 날에 내 아버지를

      자세히 살필 때에, 보소서, 다윗을 위하여 선한 일이 있는데 그때에 내가 그에게 사람을 보내어 그것을 그에게

      알려 주지 아니하면

And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, [or] the third [day], and, behold, [if there be] good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee; 

13. {주}께서 요나단에게 벌을 내리시고 더 내리시기를 원하나이다. 그러나 만일 내 아버지가 너를 해하는 것을

      기뻐하거든 내가 그것을 네게 알려 주고 너를 보내어 평안히 가게 하리라. {주}께서 내 아버지와 함께 계셨던 것

      같이 너와 함께 계시기를 원하노니

The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father [to do] thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father. 

14. 너는 내가 아직 살아 있는 동안에 {주}의 친절을 내게 베풀어 내가 죽지 아니하게 할 뿐 아니라

And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:

15. {주}께서 다윗의 원수들을 지면에서 모두 끊어 버리신 때에도 또한 내 집으로부터 네 친절을 영원히 끊어 버리지

     말라, 하고

But [also] thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.

16. 이와 같이 요나단이 다윗의 집과 언약을 맺고 이르되, {주}께서 다윗의 원수들의 손에서도 그것을 요구하실지어다,

      하니라.

So Jonathan made [a covenant] with the house of David, [saying], Let the LORD even require [it] at the hand of Davids enemies. 

17. 요나단이 다윗을 사랑하므로 그로 하여금 다시 맹세하게 하였으니 이는 그가 자기 혼을 사랑하는 것 같이 그를

      사랑하였기 때문이더라.

And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul. 

18. 그때에 요나단이 다윗에게 이르되, 내일은 월삭인데 네 자리가 빌 터이므로 사람들이 너를 찾으리라.

Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow [is] the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty. 

19. 너는 사흘 동안 머물러 있다가 빨리 내려가서 그 일을 착수하던 때에 네가 숨었던 곳에 이르러 에셀 돌 옆에

      머무르라.

And [when] thou hast stayed three days, [then] thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was [in hand], and shalt remain by the stone Ezel. 

20. 내가 마치 과녁을 쏘려 하는 것 같이 화살 셋을 그 옆에 쏠 것이요,

And I will shoot three arrows on the side [thereof], as though I shot at a mark.

21. 또, 보라, 내가 아이를 보내어 이르기를, 가서 화살을 찾으라, 하며 내가 일부러 그 아이에게 이르기를, 보라,

      화살들이 네 이편에 있으니 그것들을 가져오라, 하거든 너는 올지니라. {주}께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하거니와

      네게 평강이 있으며 해가 없으리라.

And, behold, I will send a lad, [saying], Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows [are] on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for [there is] peace to thee, and no hurt; [as] the LORD liveth. 

22. 그러나 만일 내가 그 젊은이에게 이같이 말하기를, 보라, 화살들이 네 너머에 있다, 하거든 네 길로 가라. {주}께서

       너를 보내셨느니라.

But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows [are] beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.

23. 너와 내가 말한 일에 관하여는, 보라, {주}께서 너와 나 사이에 영원토록 계시기를 원하노라, 하니라.

And [as touching] the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD [be] between thee and me for ever.

24. 이에 다윗이 들에 숨으니라. 월삭이 되매 왕이 앉아 음식을 먹을 때에

So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat.

25. 왕은 다른 때처럼 자기 자리 곧 벽 옆의 자리에 앉았고 요나단은 일어섰으며 아브넬은 사울의 옆에 앉았고 다윗의

      자리는 비었으나

And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, [even] upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Sauls side, and Davids place was empty.

26. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 날에는 사울이 아무 말도 하지 아니하였으니 이는 그가 생각하기를, 그에게 무슨 일이

       닥쳐서 그가 부정하게 되었도다. 확실히 그가 부정하게 되었도다, 하였기 때문이더라.

Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he [is] not clean; surely he [is] not clean.

27. 다음 날 곧 그 달의 둘째 날에도 다윗의 자리가 비었으므로 사울이 자기 아들 요나단에게 말하되, 어찌하여 이새의

      아들이 어제나 오늘이나 식사 자리에 나오지 아니하느냐? 하매

And it came to pass on the morrow, [which was] the second [day] of the month, that Davids place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?

28. 요나단이 사울에게 대답하되, 다윗이 베들레헴에 가려고 내게서 떠날 것을 간절히 요청하여

And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked [leave] of me [to go] to Bethlehem:

29. 이르되, 원하건대 나를 가게 하라. 우리 가족이 그 도시에서 희생물을 드리려 하므로 내 형이 내게 거기에 올 것을

      명령하였나니 이제 내가 네 눈에 은총을 입었거든 내가 떠나가서 원하건대 내 형들을 보게 하라, 하였으므로 그가

      왕의 식탁에 오지 아니하나이다, 하니라.

And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me [to be there]: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the kings table.

30. 이에 사울의 분노가 요나단을 향해 타오르매 그가 요나단에게 이르되, 너 사악하고 반역하는 여인의 아들아, 네가

      이새의 아들을 택하여 네게 혼란을 가져오고 또 네 어머니를 벌거벗기는 혼란을 가져온 줄을 내가 알지 못하랴?

Then Sauls anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious [woman], do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mothers nakedness? 

31. 이새의 아들이 땅에 사는 한 너나 네 왕국이 든든히 서지 못하리라. 그런즉 이제 사람을 보내어 그를 내게로 끌어

      오라. 그는 반드시 죽어야 하리라, 하니

For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 

32.요나단이 자기 아버지 사울에게 응답하여 이르되, 무슨 이유로 그가 죽어야 하리이까? 그가 무엇을 행하였나이까?

     하매

And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?

33. 사울이 요나단에게 창을 던져 치려 하니 이로써 요나단이 자기 아버지가 다윗을 죽이기로 결심한 줄 알고

And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.

34. 이에 맹렬히 분노하여 식탁에서 일어나고 그 달의 둘째 날에는 음식을 먹지 아니하였으니 자기 아버지가 다윗을

      모욕하였으므로 그가 다윗으로 인해 근심하였더라.

So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.

35. 아침에 요나단이 조그만 아이를 데리고 다윗과 정한 시간에 들로 나가

And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.

36. 자기의 아이에게 이르되, 달려가서 이제 내가 쏘는 화살들을 찾으라, 하고 아이가 달려갈 때에 요나단이 화살을

      그 아이 너머로 쏘니라.

And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now the arrows which I shoot. [And] as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. 

37. 아이가 요나단이 쏜 화살이 있는 곳에 이를 때에 요나단이 아이를 따라가며 외쳐 이르되, 화살이 네 너머에 있지

      아니하냐? 하고

And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, [Is] not the arrow beyond thee?

38. 요나단이 아이를 따라가며 또 외치되, 빨리 서두르고 머무르지 말라, 하매 요나단의 아이가 화살들을 주워 가지고

      자기 주인에게 돌아왔으나

And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathans lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.

39. 그 아이는 아무것도 알지 못하고 요나단과 다윗만 그 일을 알았더라.

But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.

40. 요나단이 자기의 병기를 자기의 아이에게 주며 이르되, 그것들을 가지고 도시로 가라, 하니라.

And Jonathan gave his artillery unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry [them] to the city. 

41. 아이가 가매 곧 다윗이 남쪽을 향한 곳에서 일어나 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 세 번 절한 뒤에 그들이 서로 입을

       맞추고 같이 울되 다윗이 더 심히 울었더라.

[And] as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of [a place] toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

42.요나단이 다윗에게 이르되, 평안히 가라. 우리 두 사람이 {주}의 이름으로 맹세하여 말하기를, {주}께서 영원히 나와

     너 사이에 계시고 내 씨와 네 씨 사이에 계시기를 원하노라, 하였느니라, 하니 다윗은 일어나서 떠나고 요나단은

     도시로 들어오니라.

And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
