- 영한 : (능력 등이 너무 대단해서) 쉽게 흉내 낼 수 없는 사람, 따라하기 어려운 일/행동/사람, 이기기 어려운 사람/것

- 영영 : someone or something that has been so successful that it is very difficult for the person or thing coming next to be as good

- 동일 : a tough act to follow

Although it was a hard act to follow, I did my best. 
정말 하기 힘든 일이었지만, 나는 최선을 다했다.

But I tell you, it's a hard act to follow. 
하지만 너에게 말해두는데, 그건 따라하기 힘든 행동이야.

Marcus is talking to his mother-in-law Jenny. 
(마커스가 장모 제니와 이야기하고 있다.)

Jenny: Your uncle is really a nice man. He took a lot of time to show us around town.
제니: 자네 삼촌은 정말 좋은 분이시더구나. 시간을 많이 내서 우릴 시내 구경을 시켜주셨다.

Marcus: He's always been like that. He really is our favorite uncle.
마커스: 삼촌은 항상 그러세요. 진짜 저희가 제일 좋아하는 삼촌이에요.

Jenny: Everywhere we went everybody knew him.
제니: 가는 곳마다 삼촌 모르는 사람이 없더라.

Marcus: He's very popular because he's very friendly and has a good word for everybody.
마커스: 다정다감하고 누구에 대해서도 좋게 얘기하니까 사람들이 다 좋아해요.

Jenny: If you follow his example you won't go wrong.
제니: 자네도 삼촌처럼만 하면 잘못될 게 없겠어.

Marcus: I'm trying but he's a hard act to follow.
마커스: 노력은 하는데 따라하기 참 어렵네요.

Jenny: Well, you've got a good start. You're a very nice son-in-law.
제니: 글쎄, 자넨 시작이 좋아. 아주 괜찮은 사위야.

Marcus: Thank you. You've never said that before.
마커스: 감사합니다. 그런 말씀 듣는 건 처음인데요.

Jenny: I know but I've thought it many times.
제니: 그렇지? 하지만 그런 생각은 많이 했다.

Marcus: I'm glad you told me because I feel the same way about you.
마커스: 저도 장모님이 아주 좋으신 분이라고 생각하고 있었는데 그런 말씀을 들으니 기분이 좋네요.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ show (someone) around: 안내하다. 구경을 시켜주다.
“He showed me around New York City for two days but we didn’t see very much of it.” 
(그 사람이 이틀 동안 뉴욕을 구경시켜 줬는데도 아직 못 본 게 너무 많아.)

▶ You won’t go wrong: 잘못될 수가 없어.
“You won’t go wrong if you study English every day.” 
(영어를 매일 공부하면 잘못될 수가 없어.)
