지극히 높은 곳에서는 하느님께 영광 땅에서는 그분 마음에 드는 사람들에게 평화

Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests

그 무렵 아우구스투스 황제에게서 칙령이 내려, 온 세상이 호적 등록을 하게 되었다.

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.

이 첫 번째 호적 등록은 퀴리니우스가 시리아 총독으로 있을 때에 실시되었다.

This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

그래서 모두 호적 등록을 하러 저마다 자기 본향으로 갔다.

So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.

요셉도 갈릴래아 지방 나자렛 고을을 떠나 유다 지방, 베들레헴이라고 불리는 다윗 고을로 올라갔다. 그가 다윗 집안의 자손이었기 때문이다.

And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

그는 자기와 약혼한 마리아와 함께 호적 등록을 하러 갔는데, 마리아는 임신 중이었다.

to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

그들이 거기에 머무르는 동안 마리아는 해산 날이 되어,

While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,

첫아들을 낳았다. 그들은 아기를 포대기에 싸서 구유에 뉘었다. 여관에는 그들이 들어갈 자리가 없었던 것이다.

and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

그 고장에는 들에 살면서 밤에도 양 떼를 지키는 목자들이 있었다.

Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.

그런데 주님의 천사가 다가오고 주님의 영광이 그 목자들의 둘레를 비추었다. 그들은 몹시 두려워하였다.

The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.

그러자 천사가 그들에게 말하였다. “두려워하지 마라. 보라, 나는 온 백성에게 큰 기쁨이 될 소식을 너희에게 전한다.

The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

오늘 너희를 위하여 다윗 고을에서 구원자가 태어나셨으니, 주 그리스도이시다.

For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.

너희는 포대기에 싸여 구유에 누워 있는 아기를 보게 될 터인데, 그것이 너희를 위한 표징이다.”

And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

그때에 갑자기 그 천사 곁에 수많은 하늘의 군대가 나타나 하느님을 이렇게 찬미하였다.

And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

“지극히 높은 곳에서는 하느님께 영광 땅에서는 그분 마음에 드는 사람들에게 평화!”

“Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

<주님 성탄 대축일 밤미사(2024.12.24.) 복음 말씀 : 루카복음 2,1-14>

한처음에 말씀이 계셨다. 말씀은 하느님과 함께 계셨는데 말씀은 하느님이셨다.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

그분께서는 한처음에 하느님과 함께 계셨다.

He was in the beginning with God.

모든 것이 그분을 통하여 생겨났고 그분 없이 생겨난 것은 하나도 없다.

All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be

그분 안에 생명이 있었으니 그 생명은 사람들의 빛이었다.

through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race;

그 빛이 어둠 속에서 비치고 있지만 어둠은 그를 깨닫지 못하였다.

the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

하느님께서 보내신 사람이 있었는데 그의 이름은 요한이었다.

A man named John was sent from God.

그는 증언하러 왔다. 빛을 증언하여 자기를 통해 모든 사람이 믿게 하려는 것이었다.

He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.

그 사람은 빛이 아니었다. 빛을 증언하러 왔을 따름이다.

He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.

모든 사람을 비추는 참빛이 세상에 왔다.

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

그분께서 세상에 계셨고 세상이 그분을 통하여 생겨났지만 세상은 그분을 알아보지 못하였다.

He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him.

그분께서 당신 땅에 오셨지만 그분의 백성은 그분을 맞아들이지 않았다.

He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him.

그분께서는 당신을 받아들이는 이들, 당신의 이름을 믿는 모든 이에게 하느님의 자녀가 되는 권한을 주셨다.

But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name,

이들은 혈통이나 육욕이나 남자의 욕망에서 난 것이 아니라 하느님에게서 난 사람들이다.

who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God.

말씀이 사람이 되시어 우리 가운데 사셨다. 우리는 그분의 영광을 보았다. 은총과 진리가 충만하신 아버지의 외아드님으로서 지니신 영광을 보았다.

And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.

요한은 그분을 증언하여 외쳤다. “그분은 내가 이렇게 말한 분이시다. ‘내 뒤에 오시는 분은 내가 나기 전부터 계셨기에 나보다 앞서신 분이시다.’”

John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’”

그분의 충만함에서 우리 모두 은총에 은총을 받았다.

From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace,

율법은 모세를 통하여 주어졌지만 은총과 진리는 예수 그리스도를 통하여 왔다.

because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

아무도 하느님을 본 적이 없다. 아버지와 가장 가까우신 외아드님 하느님이신 그분께서 알려 주셨다.

No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.
