1. Market Overview (Fiber Optic Components)

 ○ Pakistan is speedy growing market for Fiber Optic Components and Fiber Optic Wire industry. Major consumer of fiber optic components is Telecommunication services like Pakistan Telecommunication Limited, Mobilink, Telenor Pakistan, Warid and Zong. There are also Internet Service Providers companies working in Pakistan on big scale and they are expanding their networks day by day (Local Cable TV Service providers through Fiber Optical Network).

 ○ Pakistan military is also using fiber optic components for their communication services across the country. Security and Surveillance equipments suppliers are also using components like Patch Cords, PLC Splitters and Optical Adapters & others as well.

2. Manufacturing of Fiber Optic Components

 ○ There are very few small-scale companies manufacturing fiber optic components in Pakistan but their quality is not upto the mark but fiber optic wire manufacturers are working in Pakistan and getting good business from local market.

3. Field Installable Connectors

 ○ After communicating with different Internet Service Providers including Naya Tel, Cyber Net, Super Net and different others in market is still not much aware with FIC because normally they are using Fiber Splicing Machines. Companies who are providing FTTH Services are also not using FIC in their cabling services but they said that market can be transferred to FIC if some company can launch the product with their agent in Pakistan who can introduce that product with main consumers.

4. Demand of FIC

 ○ When it comes to the deployment of Optical Fiber networks in Pakistan, we have four major commercial long-haul optical fiber networks in PTCL, Wateen Telecom, Multinet and Mobilink. Nayatel (in Islamabad and Rawalpindi) has deployed its own fiber based metro optical ring network and is providing FTTH services but they are not using FIC in their cabling. We already introduced them with the product and they wanted to check the product and will communicate with their technical department.

 ○ As of Now in millions of consumers of Internet Services in Pakistan only 10,000 FTTH because the prices are very high in case of company using FTTH Services.

5. Import Trend

□ As per the market there is no as such demand to import FIC in Pakistan only few companies are using on small scale because mostly market is not much aware with that product and they are using Fiber Splicing Machines.

□ Importer of FIC

 ○ MS Technologies one of the leading importers of Cables and Other connectors based in Karachi imported FIC from China and trying to introduce in local market but still he did not get any positive response from the consumers.

□ Ways to Import

 ○ All of these types of products mostly imported in bulk quantity by importers and they supplied to different end users as per their requirements and demands Although smuggling and hand carry also involved in the trading of these components in Pakistan.

6. Competition

□ Presently Pakistan is importing fiber optic components from China mainly. These Chinese products are mostly unbranded. US based products mainly imported for Military used because Military Organizations have sufficient funds to import and use best quality products.  

□ European products are also available in Pakistani market but their prices are much higher than Chinese products.

□ Price per FIC

 ○ As per the market sources import price is around US$ 0.8 per piece and market selling price is around US$ 1.3 to 1.5 per piece. There are the prices of current stock available in local market but market believes as people aware with that product prices might be reduced more because competition is very high in other fiber optic components and cables.
