Good morning, church. Today we come to the very end of the Book of Numbers. This week, we are reading a double portion: Matot, which means "tribes," and Masei, which means "journeys." Matot begins by teaching us about vows and oaths. Masei, the final section of Numbers, talks about the journeys and stages of Israel's travels (Numbers 33:1).

안녕하십니까, 성도 여러분. 오늘 우리는 민수기의 마지막 부분에 이르렀습니다. 이번 주는 두 개의 포션이 겹치는 더블 포션으로, '지파'를 의미하는 '마토트'와 '노정, 여정'을 의미하는 '마쎄이'를 함께 읽습니다. 마토트는 서원과 맹세에 관한 법률로 시작하며, 민수기의 마지막 말씀인 마쎄이는 이스라엘 백성들의 노정과 여정에 대해 말씀합니다 (민 33:1).

In most years, Matot and Masei are read together on the same Sabbath. We call this a "double portion." Today, all around the world, Jewish people and Christians are reading these same texts together, following the calendar established long ago by the Prophet Ezra. Today we finish Numbers, and next week we will begin the Book of Deuteronomy. In these final chapters, as God describes the boundaries of the Promised Land, Moses introduces the laws concerning the Cities of Refuge and laws about inheritance.

To close our journey through Numbers, we will look at chapter 35. We will study the special cities given to the Levites, specifically the Cities of Refuge. My message today is titled: The Eternal City of Refuge, Jesus Christ.

민수기를 마무리하면서, 저는 35장을 본문으로 삼고 레위 사람에게 준 성읍, 도피성을 내용으로 하여 “영원한 도피성, 예수 그리스도”라는 제목으로 하나님 말씀을 증거하도록 하겠습니다.

Before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, God commanded them to set up six Cities of Refuge. In Hebrew, the word for refuge is Miklat, which means a shelter, a hiding place, or a safe haven. These cities were uniquely designed to protect someone who killed another person accidentally, without intending to. There were three cities on the east side of the Jordan River and three on the west side. They were placed so that anyone could reach them quickly and easily to escape the "avenger of blood." It was a beautiful picture of God’s grace.

하나님은 이스라엘 백성이 약속의 땅에 들어가기 전에, 그 땅에 여섯 개의 도피성을 세우라고 명령하셨습니다. 도피성은 히브리어로 '미크라트'라고 하는데 보호소, 은신처, 피할 곳이라는 뜻입니다. 고의가 아닌 과실로 살인한 자를 보호하기 위해 특별히 마련된 성읍으로 요단강 좌우에 각각 세 곳씩 있었고, 어느 곳에서나 쉽게 갈 수 있는 곳에 위치하여 보복자의 손에서 피할 수 있게 하신 하나님의 은혜의 장치였습니다.

Dear brothers and sisters, God always provides a way of escape when we go through hard times. When you are completely exhausted, when it feels like your friends, your relatives, or even your family cannot help you, and when you feel completely alone—there is Someone who makes a way for you. God has prepared a "spiritual sanctuary" for us, a true City of Refuge.

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 하나님은 우리 인생 가운데 고난 중에.. 때때로 피할 길을 마련해 주십니다. 정말 지치고 힘들 때.. 어느 누구도, 가까운 일가친척이나.. 가족도.. 도움이 안 될 때.. 나만이 홀로 남아 있다고 느낄 때.. 피할 길을 주시는 분이 계십니다. 하나님께서도 우리를 위해 도피성인 “영적인 피난처”를 준비하셨습니다.

As I read this passage this week, I felt a deep desire within myself: "I just want to rest. I want to be safe and protected. I want to be in a place where no one can hurt or disturb me." Do you have a sanctuary like that? Do you have a place to run to? Jesus Christ is our eternal place of rest and our City of Refuge. Hallelujah!

오늘 이 본문을 읽으면서.. 참.. 쉬고 싶다.. 안전하게 보호받고 싶다. 어느 누구에게도 방해받고 싶지 않은 곳에 있고 싶다.. 그런 마음이 들었습니다. 여러분은.. 그런 안식처요, 도피처가 있습니까? "영원한 나의 안식처, 나의 도피성, 예수 그리스도” 외치시기를 축원합니다. 할렐루야!

In the ancient world, life was governed by the law of retaliation—"an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." "Blood revenge" was seen as a sacred duty. If a family member was killed, the social pressure on the remaining family to avenge that death was incredibly high.

고대 근동 사회는 눈에는 눈, 이에는 이..라는 말이 있듯이., '피의 복수'가 당연한 의무처럼 여겨지던 시대였습니다. 가족 중 누군가 억울하게 죽임을 당하면, 남은 가족이 반드시 그 복수를 해야 한다는 사회적 압력이 컸습니다.

But even in that harsh culture, God introduced a completely different standard. He wanted His community to be ruled by mercy, justice, and compassion, not by human anger or emotional revenge. Despite our human mistakes and sins, God gives us a fresh start. He does not offer condemnation; He offers a pathway to restoration.

하지만 그런 문화 속에서도, 하나님은 전혀 다른 기준을 보여주셨습니다. 하나님은 인간의 분노와 감정이 아니라, 자비와 공의, 그리고 긍휼로 공동체를 다스리시길 원하셨습니다. 인간의 실수와 죄에도 불구하고 하나님은 새로운 기회를 주시고, 정죄가 아니라 회복의 길을 제시하십니다.

The same is true for us today. God does not want us to be destroyed by our sins. That is why He gave us Jesus Christ to be our ultimate City of Refuge. I pray that during our time together today, you will find true peace, comfort, and deep rest inside our City of Refuge, Jesus Christ.

오늘 우리에게도 마찬가지입니다.. 하나님은 우리가 죄로 인해 멸망당하길 원치 않으십니다. 그래서 예수 그리스도를 우리의 도피성으로 주셨습니다. 오늘 저와 여러분이.. 도피성 안에서 평안과 위로와 쉼을 얻는 시간이 되시길 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다.

📌 Body: Three Truths About the City of Refuge / 본론: 도피성을 통해 보는 예수 그리스도

Through the City of Refuge, we can clearly see Jesus Christ, who is our permanent sanctuary. Just like many stories in the Old Testament, the City of Refuge is a model, a shadow pointing directly to Jesus. Let’s look at three ways this ancient law reveals Christ to us today.

먼저, 우리는 '도피성' 제도를 통해 영원한 '도피성'이 되시는 예수 그리스도를 보게 됩니다. 구약의 많은 부분들이 그러하듯이, '도피성' 또한 예수 그리스도의 모형, 곧 그림자입니다. 이 '도피성' 제도를 통해 예수 그리스도가 어떻게 나타나고 있는가? 를 3가지로 정리해보겠습니다.

1. It was always accessible and within reach / 첫째, 어디서든지 쉽게 갈 수 있는 곳에 도피성을 만들었습니다.

God told the people of Israel to choose six specific cities. Three were on the east side of the Jordan River, and three were on the west side. Verse 11 says, "Select cities to be your cities of refuge, so that a person who kills someone accidentally may flee there."

오늘 본문의 말씀대로 우리 하나님이 이스라엘 백성에 말씀하시기를 너희가 요단에 가서 얻을 땅에 도피성 6개를 정하는데, 요단 이편에 셋, 저편에 셋 이렇게 해서 도피성을 정하라고 했습니다. 11절 말씀에 “너희를 위하여 성읍을 도피성으로 정하여 부지중에 살인한 자가 그리로 피하게 하라” 하십니다.

Because a person who made a mistake could not always travel all the way to the central Tabernacle, God placed these cities throughout the land. Running to a City of Refuge was not a cowardly act; it was a conscious choice to step under God’s justice and mercy. The six cities were strategically located—Kedesh, Shechem, and Hebron on the west; Golan, Ramoth, and Bezer on the east. No matter where you lived, a safe place was always nearby.

부지중에 살인한 사람이 항상 성소로만 피할 수 없었기 때문에, 하나님은 이스라엘 백성이 기업으로 받은 땅들 각기 중앙에 '도피성'을 만들어 어디서든지 쉽게 피할 수 있게 하셨습니다. 여기서 '도피'는 비겁한 도망이 아니라, 하나님의 공의와 자비 아래 머무는 선택입니다. 하나님은 레위인들이 사는 도시들 가운데 6곳, 곧 요단 서편에 3곳(게데스, 세겜, 헤브론)을, 요단 동편에 3곳(골란, 라못, 베셀)을 도피성으로 정해 놓으셨습니다. 그래서 이스라엘 백성은 부지중에 살인한 경우, 각기 자기들이 사는 지역에서 쉽게 도피성을 찾아갈 수 있었습니다.

I love the fact that God did not hide these cities in hard-to-reach places. They were visible, accessible, and open to anyone in need. This shows us how deeply God loves humanity and how generous His grace truly is. Once an accidental killer was inside the city, God guaranteed three things: 1) The avenger could not touch them, 2) No harm could come to them, and 3) Their protection was fully guaranteed. God always provides a way out.

그런데 감사한 것은 하나님은 도피성이 아주 찾기 어렵고, 가기 힘들고, 거리가 먼 곳에 만드신 것이 아니라, 누구든지 쉽게 찾아갈 수 있도록, 누구든지 있는 곳에서 바라볼 수 있도록 허락하셨습니다. 여기에서 인류를 향한 하나님의 자비하심과 그 넘치는 은혜를 내려 주심을 우리는 발견할 수가 있습니다. 그리고 살인자가 그 도피성에 숨어 있을 때에 절대 거기는 세 가지 약속이 있습니다. ① 보복하려는 자(보수자)가 손을 대지 못하게 했습니다. ② 어떤 해도 입지 않게 했습니다. ③ 완전히 보장을 받게 했습니다. 그래서 이렇게 하나님이 피할 길을 주신 것입니다. 인간은 어떠한 어려움이 있어도 하나님이 피할 길을 주셨습니다.

Furthermore, Deuteronomy 19:3 tells us that the roads leading to these cities had to be kept in perfect condition. Once a year, the community would go out to clear the roads, remove obstacles, and repair the paths. This was done so that anyone running for their life could get there without delay. This truth touches my heart deeply.

또한 그리고 신명기 19장 3절에 보면, '도피성'으로 가는 길은 항상 잘 닦여 있어야 했습니다 (신19:3). 일 년에 일 차씩 온 백성이 나와 '도피성'에 이르는 길을 잘 닦아야 했습니다. 그래서 누구든지 쉽게 그곳으로 피할 수 있도록 하셨다는 내용에 저는 큰 감동이 되었습니다.

Personal Reflection: Without understanding the Old Testament Torah, it is very difficult to understand the full depth of the New Testament. When we connect the Old and New Testaments together, our eyes are opened to see how beautifully Jesus Christ completes the entire Scripture. It makes me marvel every single time. Hallelujah!

(간증) 구약의 토라 말씀을 읽지 않고서는 성경을 깊이 있게 이해하기가 어렵습니다. 이 모든 이해는 구약 och 신약을 통시적으로 연결해서 봐야, 예수 그리스도를 통해 성경을 완성적으로 볼 수 있는 눈이 열립니다. 여러 번 감탄하고 느끼는 점입니다. 할렐루야!!

In the New Testament, this ancient law becomes a beautiful reality through the Gospel. Jesus is our ultimate hiding place, a sanctuary of mercy open to flawed and sinful people. Even though the Bible says, "the wages of sin is death," and we deserved to die for our mistakes, God sent Jesus to be our eternal shelter.

신약에 이르러서... 오늘 우리에게도 민수기에 기록된 '도피성'은 복음 안에서 새롭게 다가옵니다. 예수 그리스도 안에서 죄인 된 우리에게 열려 있는 피난처, 바로 자비와 긍휼의 자리입니다. 인간의 실수와 죄에도 불구하고 하나님은 새로운 기회를 주시고, 정죄가 아니라 회복의 길을 제시하십니다. 우리들이 지은 죄 때문에 "죄의 삯은 사망이라"는 말씀처럼 우리는 마땅히 죄 값으로 죽어야만 했습니다. 그러나 우리 하나님은 죄된 우리들을 사랑하셔서 피할 길, 곧 우리의 영원한 '도피성'인 예수 그리스도를 보내 주셨습니다.

Jesus is not far away; He is incredibly close. Anyone can come to Him anytime, anywhere, completely free of charge, and receive salvation. Because the way to Him is clear, we must not make the Gospel complicated or hard for people to reach.

예수 그리스도는 우리들이 감히 찾아갈 수 없을 정도로 멀리 계신 분이 아니라, 아주 가까이 계신 분입니다. 그래서 어디에서든지 쉽게 그리고 값없이 그에게로 나아가 구원받을 수 있게 되었습니다. '도피성'이 예수 그리스도의 모형이요 그림자라면, 그에게로 나가는 길이 결코 어렵고 험난한 길이 되어서는 안 됩니다.

But remember: simply knowing the city exists does not save you. Only those who actually ran to the city survived. They had to run with everything they had. When you realize you have failed or sinned, you must run immediately to God. An accidental killer could not afford to look back. They didn't have time to plan a funeral, take care of business, or plan a wedding. They had to run the moment they heard the news, because lingering meant death at the hands of the avenger. This shows us the urgency of running toward salvation.

그런데.. 도피성이 있다고 다~ 사는 것 아닙니다. '나는 죽을 수 없다'고 도피하는 사람만이 살았습니다. 말하자면, 도피성까지 열심을 다하여 뛰어야 했습니다. 내 삶에 실수와 부족함이 찾아올 때, 나를 자비로 품으시는 하나님께로 달려가야 합니다. 도피성을 향해 살기 위해 뒤도 안 돌아보고 뛰어야 했습니다. 아버지를 장사하러 갈 사이도 없고, 사업을 하러 갈 사이도 없고, 장가 가거나 시집 갈 사이도 없이 복음을 듣는 순간 즉시로 달려가야 합니다. 그러다 보복자에게 잡히면 그냥 죽을 테니까, 가족들에게 작별하러 갈 사이도 없습니다. 여러분.. 이 점은.. 구원의 길을 향해 달려가야 하는 이유가 됩니다.

Think about the two criminals crucified next to Jesus. The criminal on the left had no desire for true salvation. He mocked Jesus, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us." He was just talking without any real sincerity, even while facing death. But we must never joke about the things of God.

예를 들어 보면, 예수님께서 십자가에 달리셨을 때 양쪽의 강도를 한번 생각해 보세요. 좌편 강도는 살려는 의도가 없었습니다. “당신이 하나님의 아들이라면 당신도 구원하고 나도 구원해보라” 고 예수님께 말했지만, 그것은 조롱이 섞인 해본 소리였습니다. 지금 십자가에 매달려 있는 형편에.. 진실이 없는 한번 해 보는 소리입니다. 그러나 하나님의 일 가지고는 농담해서는 안 됩니다.

On the other hand, the criminal on the right cried out, "Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." This was not a joke. It was a deeply sincere, desperate cry from a man who wanted eternal life. Even though his entire life had been defined by crime and sin, he wanted the salvation Jesus offered. Jesus saw his heart and replied, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

반면에.. 다른 한 사람은 우편 강도는 “예수여, 당신의 나라에 임하실 때에 나를 생각하소서.” 이 말을 바로 말하면, "주님, 당신이 하나님의 나라에 임하실 때에 나도 가게 하옵소서.” 라는 겁니다. 이것은 조롱이 아닙니다. 한번 해본 소리도 아닙니다. 간절히 원했습니다. 그는 정말 예수 그리스도를 믿으므로 영원한 생명을 얻고 싶었습니다. 그는 마지막 순간에도 예수 그리스도께서 말씀하시는 영생을 얻고 싶었습니다. 평생에 한 거라고는 강도 밖에 없지만, 죄된 삶이 전부였지만.. 예수님께서 말씀하시는 구원의 영생을 얻고 싶었던 겁니다. 그렇기에 그 마음을 아시는 예수님께서 "내가 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 오늘 네가 나와 함께 낙원에 이르리라”고 말씀하셨습니다.

So again, simply knowing about the City of Refuge does not save you. You must flee to it. Like the criminal on the right, we must grab the opportunity for mercy while we can. Even if there are thousands of safe cities available, only the person who steps inside is saved.

그러니까.. 여러분.. 도피성이 어디 있다고 사는 것이 아닙니다. 그 도피성으로 도망해야 합니다. 그 도피성을 향해 뛰어야 합니다. 우편 강도처럼.. 마지막 때까지라도.. 기회를 놓치지 말고, 구해야 살 수 있습니다. 도피성이 6개가 아니라, 천 개, 만 개 있다 하더라도 그 도피성으로 피한 사람만 살 수 있는 것입니다. 아멘.

2. It was open to absolutely everyone / 둘째, 유대인이든지 이방인이든지 누구나 도피성에 나가 피할 수 있었습니다.

The City of Refuge was not built only for the Jewish people. It was available to foreigners and outsiders as well.

'도피성'은 오로지 유대인들만을 위해 만든 제도는 아닙니다. 유대인들뿐만 아니라, 이방인들에게도 해당되는 제도입니다.

Let's read verse 15: "These six cities shall be for refuge for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them, that anyone who kills a person accidentally may flee there." This commandment shows us that God cares deeply about anyone facing unfair danger. The Torah explicitly commands that a way of escape must be provided for those in crisis.

15절을 읽겠습니다. "이 여섯 성읍은 이스라엘 자손과 타국인과 이스라엘 중에 거류하는 자의 도피성이 되리니 부지중에 살인한 모든 자가 그리로 도피할 수 있으리라.” 도피성은 하나님께서 부당하게 위협을 받는 사람에게 관심을 두고 계시다는 것을 가르쳐줍니다. 위험에 처한 사람에게 탈출구와 피난처를 제공하는 것이 토라의 계명입니다.

In the last century, Jewish people who moved back to Israel through the Aliyah movement truly understood the value of a refuge. Aliyah is a Hebrew word that means "to go up." Historically, it meant going up to Jerusalem for worship, but today, it refers to Jewish people from all over the world returning to their historic homeland.

지난 세기에, 알리야 운동으로 이스라엘로 이주한 유대인들은 절실히 도피처의 진가를 깨달았다고 합니다. 알리야는 원래 히브리어로 '올라간다'는 뜻입니다. 종교적으로는 예루살렘 성전으로 올라가는 성지순례를 의미했지만, 현대에 와서는 전 세계에 흩어져 살던 유대인들이 자신들의 영적·역사적 고향인 이스라엘 땅으로 '귀환(이주)'하는 것을 뜻하는 고유명사가 되었습니다.

During World War II, when six million Jews were murdered by the Nazis, many brave Gentile Christians provided hiding places and shelter for them. Later, those fleeing Jews headed to Israel. For them, new cities like Tel Aviv, Haifa, Tiberias, Beersheba, and Jerusalem became physical cities of refuge. Seeing these ancient scriptures come alive in modern history reminds us that God’s plan of salvation never changes.

제 2차 세계대전 중에 600만 명의 유대인들이 나치에게 학살당하는 암울한 시기에 많은 이방인 그리스도인들이 유대인들에게 피난처를 제공하고, 나치로부터 그들을 숨겨주었습니다. 여기서.. 그렇게 환난 가운데 쫓기던 유대인들이 도피할 수 있는 피난처인 이스라엘 땅으로 향했습니다. 이제 그들에게 새로운 도피성은 현대 도시 지역인 텔아비브, 하이파, 티베리우스, 브엘세바, 예루살렘과 같은 지역 이름이었습니다. 수천 년 구약의 말씀들이.. 이렇게 현대적 의미로 해석이 되었고, 마침내 1948년 이스라엘이 건국이 되면서, 도피처로서 이스라엘 백성들이 다시 역사에 등장하게 된 것은 하나님의 구원의 계획은 여전히 변함없이 진행되고 있다는 사실을 볼 수 있습니다.

This proves that God’s salvation is for everyone—there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles. Just as the ancient cities welcomed anyone, Jesus Christ offers full salvation to every single person who calls on Him. Amen.

인류를 향한 하나님의 구원이란 유대인이나 헬라인이나 차별이 없다는 것을 보여줍니다. '도피성'이 유대인이나 헬라인 모두에게 구원을 베풀어 준 것처럼, 예수 그리스도 또한 모든 죄된 백성들에게 구원을 베풀어 주시는 것입니다. 아멘.

3. To stay alive, you had to remain inside the city / 셋째, 부지중에 살인한 자가 살기 위해서는 절대로 도피성을 떠나서는 안 됩니다.

Look at verses 26 and 27: "But if the manslayer at any time goes outside the limits of the city of refuge where he fled, and the avenger of blood finds him outside... and kills the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of blood."

26절, 27절을 보시면. “그러나 살인자가 어느 때든지 그 피하였던 도피성 지경 밖에 나가면, 피를 보복하는 자가 도피성 지경 밖에서 그 살인자를 만나 죽일지라도 위하여 피 흘린 죄가 없나니..."

Once you ran to the City of Refuge, you had to stay there. Leaving the city meant losing your protection. In the exact same way, our life and protection are found only when we remain inside Jesus Christ. There is no salvation outside of Him.

도피성으로 피한 사람은 반드시 그곳에 머물러 있어야지, 떠나면 안 됩니다. 그 사람이 생명을 보존할 수 있는 유일한 길은 도피성 안에 있는 것뿐입니다. 마찬가지로, 우리들도 영원한 도피성이신 예수 그리스도 안에서만 생명을 보존할 수 있습니다. 여러분.. 예수 그리스도 외에는 구원을 얻을 수 있는 길은 없습니다.

Acts 4:12 tells us: "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Anyone who trusts in Jesus will live. It doesn't matter what background you have, what mistakes you’ve made, or how much clout you think you have—Jesus is an open door for everyone.

사도행전 4장 12절 말씀에, "다른 이로서는 구원을 얻을 수 없나니 천하 인간에 구원을 얻을만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이니라 하였더라" (행 4:12)고 했습니다. 누구든지 예수 믿으면 삽니다. 누구든지, 어느 민족, 어느 시대, 누구든지.. 죄를 지었든 안 지었든, 잘났든 못났든, 공로가 있든 없든, 누구든지에게 열려있는 구원이 곧 예수 그리스도이십니다.

But we must understand this key point: though the door is wide open, you must actually believe. Salvation belongs to those who place their trust in Him. Faith makes God's promises real in our daily lives.

근데, 이걸 아셔야 합니다. 구원의 문은 열려있지만, 믿어야 합니다. 구원은 예수 그리스도를 믿는 자에게 주어집니다. 믿음은 바라는 것의 실상이라고 했습니다. 믿음으로 실체를 붙잡게 됩니다.

● The way of salvation is open to all, but only those who walk through it are saved.

● God's grace is ready for everyone, but only those who step forward receive it.

● Jesus is the Savior of the world, but that salvation must be personally accepted through faith.

● ① 누구에게나 구원의 길은 열려 있지만, 그 길로 나아가는 사람이 구원을 얻습니다.

● ② 누구에게나 하나님의 은혜는 준비되어 있지만, 그 은혜를 받고자 일어서서 나아가는 사람만이 그 은혜를 체험합니다.

📌 Conclusion: Freedom Through the High Priest’s Death / 결론: 대제사장의 죽음과 완전한 구속

An accidental killer inside the city could only leave under one condition: when the current High Priest died. When the High Priest passed away, everyone inside the six Cities of Refuge was instantly set free. They could return home, travel safely, and live in total freedom. God designed the High Priest's death to be the moment of release for the guilty.

이제 도피성에 들어간 사람은 밖에 나오면 안 됩니다. 만약 나와서 돌아다니다가 보복자가 그를 죽여도 죽인 사람은 죄가 없습니다. 도피성에서 나와 돌아다닌 사람이 잘못입니다. 흥미롭게도.. 그 사람이 그 도피성에서 나올 수 있는 경우는 오직 하나, 그 당시의 대제사장이 죽을 때뿐입니다. 그 당시의 대제사장이 죽으면, 도피성 안에 있는 모든 사람들은 도피성에서 나올 수 있습니다. 비로소 그들에게 자유가 주어지는 것입니다. 대제사장은 언제나 한 명이었습니다. 그들은 성막 근처에서 살았고 도피성에서 살지 않았습니다. 그러나 대제사장이 죽었다는 소문이 들리면 6개의 도피성에 있는 모든 죄인들은 다 해방되었습니다. 그들은 완전한 자유이므로 여행도 자유롭게 하고, 어디든 자유롭게 다닐 수 있습니다. 대제사장의 죽음은 죄인들을 풀어주는 순간이 되게 하나님께서 만드신 것입니다.

Isn't that amazing? The death of one brought life and freedom to many. From the very beginning, Scripture teaches us a profound rule: someone must die so that someone else can live.

흥미롭지 않습니까? 대제사장이 죽으면 도피성 안에 도피하고 있는 사람들이 다 자유를 얻는다는 것이………. 그런데, 성경은 처음부터 누군가가 죽어야, 누군가가 산다고 말씀하고 있는 것입니다.

Look at Cain and Abel. Cain brought an offering from the ground, but Abel brought the firstborn of his flock. God accepted Abel’s offering. Hebrews 11:4 tells us, "By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous." It was a better sacrifice because it involved a life.

가인과 아벨의 제사를 보세요. 가인은 땅의 소산으로 제물을 삼아 하나님께 드렸고, 아벨은 양의 첫 새끼와 그 기름으로 드렸더니 하나님께서 아벨의 제물을 열납하셨습니다. 히브리서 11:4, “믿음으로 아벨은 가인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님께 드림으로 의로운 자라 하시는 증거를 얻었으니.” 믿음으로 드린 제사, 가인보다 나은 제사, 그것은 생명을 드렸기 때문입니다.

Our salvation requires a similar sacrifice of faith. Hebrews 9:11-12 says that Christ came as our ultimate High Priest. He entered the heavenly sanctuary once and for all, not with the blood of goats or calves, but with His own precious blood, securing our eternal redemption.

여러분의 저의 구원도 아벨처럼, 믿음으로 더 나은 제사로 생명을 드리는 제사여야 합니다. 히브리서 9:11-12, "그리스도께서 장래 좋은 일의 대제사장으로 오사 손으로 짓지 아니한, 곧 이 창조에 속하지 아니한, 더 크고 온전한 장막으로 말미암아, 염소와 송아지의 피로 아니하고, 오직 자기 피로 영원한 속죄를 이루사 단번에 성소에 들어가셨느니라."

Jesus gave His life to rescue us. Because He did, we cannot just sit around passively saying, "Lord, help me," without changing our lives. True faith means giving our lives back to Him, offering a living sacrifice based on what He has done for us.

그렇게 예수 그리스도 그분은 여러분과 저를 구원하시기 위해, 당신의 생명을 내어 놓으신 겁니다. 그것은 동시에, 우리 역시 구원을 얻기 위해 생명을 걸어야 한다는 것입니다. 여전히 그 자리에 앉아 뭉그적거리면서 “주님 나를 도와주세요.” 혹은 “하나님의 뜻이 무엇일까?" 이래가지고는 구원이 없는 겁니다. 가인이 드리는 제사가 아니라.. 생명을 드리는 제사로.. 믿음의 제사를 드려야 합니다. 아벨의 제사를 받으신 이유는 믿음으로 드린 제사입니다. 그 믿음은 생명의 피로 제물 되신 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음의 제사인 것입니다. 주님께 생명을 드려야 합니다.

What does it mean to give your life to God? It means dying to your old self. It means letting go of human pride, selfish desires, and the unhealthy habits we used to cling to. Changing our deep-seated routines can be incredibly painful, like a small death. But we must die to our old ways so we can be raised to a brand-new life in Christ.

생명 드린다는 말이 무슨 말입니까? 자신을 죽이는 겁니다. 그동안 이게 나의 전부라고 생각하는 것, 생명처럼 바둥바둥 붙잡던 자존심, 세상을 향한 열망이나 욕망에 짓눌린 자신의 실존.. 가인이 그랬어요. 그러나 그것을 끊어 버리는 것입니다. 세상의 것을 붙잡고 “이거 아니면 난 못 살아"가 아니라, “예수님~ 아니면 난 못 삽니다”로 바뀌는 것이, 생명을 주님께 드리는 것입니다.(생각하듯이.. 쉽지 않아요) 이때까지 살아온 삶의 습관, 그것 버리는 것이 정말 힘듭니다. 그렇기에 그것을 끊어 버리는 것은 마치 죽는 것과 같습니다. 아프고 고통스러운 일입니다. 그러나 그래야 합니다. 죽어야 합니다. 그런 것에서 죽어야, 그리스도 안에서 다시 살아날 수 있습니다. 그런 것에서 죽어야, 그리스도 안에서 새로운 삶을 살 수 있습니다.

True faith always leads to obedience. While salvation is a free gift received through faith, that faith proves itself through a lifestyle of obedience to God's Word. True repentance means looking at our flaws in the mirror of God’s law and returning to His paths. As Jesus said: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."

도피성에 들어갔다가 나왔다고 해서, 모두 다 영원한 생명인 구원을 얻는 게 아닙니다. 순종이 따라와야 합니다. 순종입니다. 여러분.. 구원은 믿음으로 받게 되지만, 그 믿음은 하나님 말씀의 토라의 순종에서 이루어집니다. 순종 없이는 은혜가 없습니다. 순종 없이는 회개도 없습니다. 하나님의 공의인 율법에 거울처럼 비추어진 자신의 죄된 모습을 볼 수 있고, 순종하지만, 완전하지 못한 자신의 연약함에 대한 깨달음과 정확한 과녁에 정조준하는 토라의 말씀으로 돌아가는 것이 바로 [회개]입니다. => “때가 찼고, 하나님 나라가 가까이 왔으니, 회개하고 복음을 믿으라" 요한 사도와 예수님이 핵심적으로 주신 말씀이지 않습니까? 복음을 믿어, 하나님의 말씀에 순종함으로써.. 그 안에서 하나님의 은혜를 깨닫고, 하나님께 헌신을 다짐해야 합니다. 그리고 헌신의 삶을 살아야 합니다. 실제로.. 말씀대로 살아야 합니다. 아멘.

In Matthew 5:29-30, Jesus used strong language, saying if your right eye or right hand causes you to sin, you should cut it off. Of course, if we took this literally, none of us would have any body parts left! But the beauty of the Gospel is that Jesus took that punishment for us. His body was broken so that ours could be made whole. Since He gave His life for us, the only natural response is to use our eyes, our hands, and our lives to serve Him.

예수님은 마태복음 5장 29절에서 “오른 눈이 너로 실족케 하면 빼어 내버리라.” 30절, “오른 손이 너로 실족케 하거든 찍어 내버리라.”고 하셨습니다. 그런데 그럴 수 있어요? 죄 지을 때마다.. 꼭 그래야 한다면, 우리에게 남아 있는 것 하나도 없을 것입니다. 그런데 우리 눈이 뽑히고, 우리 손이 찍어져야 하는데, 예수 그리스도 그 분이 대신하셨습니다. 예수님의 눈이 뽑히셨고, 예수님의 손이 잘라졌습니다. 예수님이 그 생명을 내어 놓으셨습니다. 그렇다면 이 멀쩡한 눈, 이 멀쩡한 손, 아직도 살아있는 이 생명으로 예수님을 위해 일해야 하는 것 아닙니까? 이것이 은혜받은 자의 삶의 태도입니다.

A classic story illustrates this: A traveler saw a man at a crossroads tossing a walking stick into the air over and over. The traveler asked, "What are you doing?" The man replied, "I don't know which path to take, so I'm letting the stick decide based on which way it falls." The traveler asked, "Then why do you keep throwing it?" The man smiled and said, "I'm waiting for it to fall toward the path I actually want to take!" Sometimes, we treat God's guidance the same way, waiting until we hear the answer we already decided on. But real faith means accepting His direction right away.

어떤 사람이 갈림길에서 지팡이를 세웠다가 놓았다가 합니다. 그래서 지나가는 사람이 물었습니다. "무얼 하느냐?” 그 사람이 말합니다. “갈림길에서 어느 길을 가야할 지 몰라, 지팡이가 넘어지는 쪽으로 가려고 한다.”고. “그렇다면 한 번이면 되는 데 왜 계속하십니까?" 그렇게 물었습니다. 그 사람이 대답합니다. “내가 원하는 쪽으로 넘어갈 때까지 하고 있습니다." 이미 하나님께서 말씀하셨음에도 하나님의 응답을 기다리는 사람은 마치 자기가 원하는 응답을 듣기 원하는 사람과 같습니다. 지체하지 말고 말씀대로 순종합시다.

Faith means living out the Word daily. John 1:14 tells us that the Word became flesh and lived among us, full of grace and truth. The very first place we practice this devotion is inside the local church, which is the body of Christ. If we don't experience Jesus inside our spiritual refuge, we cannot share Him outside. If we don't love each other here, we cannot love the world out there.

믿음은 곧 순종입니다. 말씀대로 사는 것입니다. 말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 오신 “예수 그리스도 영광을 보는데 아버지 독생자의 영광이요, 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라 “(요1:14) 여기 아버지 독생자 예수님의 영광이요.. 은혜와 진리가 충만한 주님을 위해 가장 먼저 헌신하는 곳이 교회입니다. 교회는 주님의 몸이기 때문입니다. 도피성인 교회 안에서 예수 그리스도를 만나는 경험이 없으면, 교회 밖에서 아무것도 할 수 없습니다. 도피성인 교회 안에서 서로 사랑하지 않고서는 교회 밖에서 아무도 사랑할 수 없습니다. 도피성인 교회 안에서 헌신하지 아니하고서는 교회 밖에서도 헌신할 수 없습니다. 여러분... 그리스도인이 그리스도의 몸 된 교회를 사랑하지 못하면서 어떻게 세상을 사랑할 수 있겠습니까?

Our only true path forward is to run to Jesus Christ, our eternal sanctuary. He alone can deliver us from death and give us real security. Let’s bring all our mistakes, weaknesses, and worries to Him today. May you walk in total victory this week, keeping a song of praise in your heart as you walk alongside our Savior. Amen.
