Hold on to Faith in the Midst of Trials
“Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith.”
— Romans 3:27
When we go through trials, we often ask,
“Why is this happening to me?”
“Why does it seem that I am the only one going through such a difficult time?”
But when trials come, we need to remember this first: we are not suffering because God has abandoned us or singled us out.
Oswald Chambers reminds us:
“When you are tempted, never think that you are the only one being tempted. God does not exempt you from temptation; He delivers you through it.”
God has not promised that we will never face trials in this world. Rather, He teaches us to depend on Him in the midst of them. Therefore, when a trial comes, we do not need to conclude that God has left us.
What matters is not the size of the trial, but whom we look to in the midst of it.
We often try to overcome difficulties by relying on our own experience, determination, or good works. But Paul points us to “the law of faith.” We are justified before God not because of our works, and our strength to endure trials cannot become a reason for boasting. From beginning to end, our hope rests on the grace of God.
First Corinthians 10:13 reminds us:
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
So if you are facing a trial today, instead of asking,
“Lord, why have You allowed this trial?”
ask,
“Lord, what should I depend on in the midst of this trial?”
God does not always remove us from trials. He holds us in the midst of them and enables us to endure.
So today, do not boast in your own righteousness or strength. Put your trust in Jesus Christ. May your trial become not a time when you are overcome, but a time when you experience more deeply how great and faithful God's grace is.
Today’s Key Thought:
Trials are not unique to me; God does not always remove the trial, but He holds me through it and enables me to overcome by faith.
