너희는 눈을 높이 들어 누가 이 모든 것을 창조하였나 보라

Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?

주께서는 수효대로 만상을 이끌어 내시고

He who brings out the starry host one by one,

각각 그 이름을 부르시나니

and calls them each by name.

그의 권세가 크고 그의 능력이 강하므로 하나도 빠짐이 없느니라.

Because of his great power and mighty strength,

not one of them is missing.

야곱아 네가 어찌하여 말하며 이스라엘아 네가 어찌하여

이르기를 내 사정은 여호와께 숨겨졌으며

Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD;

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is

the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

피곤치 아니하시며 곤비치 아니하시며 명철이 한이 없으시며

He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

피곤한 자에게는 능력을 주시며 무능한 자에게는 힘을 더하시나니

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

소년이라도 피곤하며 곤비하며 장정이라도 넘어지며 자빠지되

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

오직 여호와를 앙망하는 자는 새 힘을 얻으리니

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.

독수리의 날개 치며 올라감 같을 것이요

They will soar on wings like eagles;

(다같이) 달음박질하여도 곤비치 아니하겠고 걸어가도 피곤치 아니하리로다.

산상수훈 The Sermon on the Mount 8. 주님의 눈 The Eye of the Lord

비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라 너희의 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요 너희의 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이니라. 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐 보라 네 눈 속에 들보가 있는데 어찌하여 형제에게 말하기를 나로 네 눈 속에 있는 티를 빼게 하라 하겠느냐 외식하는 자여 먼저 네 눈 속에서 들보를 빼어라 그 후에야 밝히 보고 형제의 눈 속에서 티를 빼리라. 거룩한 것을 개에게 주지 말며, 너희 진주를 돼지 앞에 던지지 말라 저희가 그것을 발로 밟고 돌이켜 너희를 찢어 상할까 염려하라 마태복음 6:1-6

"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. Matthew 6:1-6

이미 알고 있는 바대로는 오히려 “남을 비판하지 말라.”는 말에 대해서 ‘그러면 명백히 죄를 짓고 남을 해하고 있는 사람을 그냥 눈감아 주라는 말인가?’는 생각을 하게 됩니다. 그럴 수는 없는 일입니다. 오른 뺨을 치거든 왼 편까지 들이대라는 대로 세상에서 그대로 하고 살면 맨날 사기나 당하고 살게 될 것입니다. 믿는 사람은 세상에 속기는커녕 오히려 세상을 심판해야 하는 지혜를 가지고 살아야 마땅하다고 생각합니다.

우리는 주님의 내면적 의미를 찾고자 합니다. 그리고 그것은 추측이나 선심성 해석이 아니라 분명하게 말씀 속에 담겨 있다고 믿습니다. 오늘 말씀도 그러합니다. “너희의 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요.” 이는 흔히 ‘남 얘기 할 것 없어, 살다보면 나도 다 그렇게 돼. 그저 모자란 사람들끼리 모여 사는 거지 머.’ 이런 종류의 넋두리가 아닙니다. 위의 말씀은 오히려 ‘내 마음 상태가 어떠하면 모든 것이 다 그렇게 보이더라.’에 더 가깝습니다.

그리고 그 다음에 하신 말씀에서 주님은 “눈 속”이라는 표현을 여섯 번이나 언급하셨습니다. 반복에 의한 강조입니다. 여기 눈은 마음 상태를 가리키는 데에 대부분 공감하실 것입니다. 즉 오늘 말씀은 ‘나는 무엇으로 세상을 보는가?’에 대한 내용입니다. 그런데 주님은 이 눈을 두고 티와 들보를 비교하여 말씀하셨습니다. 티는 그대로 번역이 되었는데 들보는 본래 주님이 말씀하신 것은 그저 통나무입니다.

즉 남의 눈에는 작은 티, 내 눈에는 커다란 통나무가 있다고 하신 것입니다. 우리는 반대로 압니다. 내 눈에 있는 것에 대해서는 너그럽고 다른 사람의 것은 가혹합니다. 주님은 이러한 인식이 바뀌어야 한다는 말씀을 하신 것입니다. 이럴 때 사람들이 가장 흔히 하는 이야기는 ‘입장을 바꾸어 생각해 보라.’는 것입니다. 주님이 말씀하고자 하신 것은 그런 흔한 이야기가 아닙니다.

주님은 바로 이어서 개와 돼지의 이야기를 하십니다. 그러면 마땅히 개나 돼지가 아닌 대상은 사람이라는 생각을 하게 됩니다. 그리고 물론 여기 개나 돼지, 그리고 사람이 실은 모두 사람들을 가리키는 것입니다. 사람은 거룩한 것을 허락 받았다는 것도 생각할 수 있습니다. 여기에 힌트가 있습니다. 거룩한 것은 속된 것을 이리저리 바꾼다고 해서 될 일이 아닙니다. 오직 하나님의 임재로만 거룩하게 됩니다.

즉 주님이 위에 언급하신 대로 내 눈에 있는 통나무를 보고 다른 사람 눈에 티를 보게 되는 것은 오직 주님의 눈으로 볼 때 가능한 일입니다. 개나 돼지는 결국 먹는 것을 위해 움직입니다. 이는 주님이 말씀하신 “무엇을 먹을까?”의 문제, 즉 소유와 지배가 자신을 자신답게 하는 것으로 아는 것에 모든 움직임의 이유와 목적이 담겨 있는 사람들입니다. 남을 위해 봉사를 해도 결국 소유와 지배, 열심을 내어도 소유와 지배, 그러면 개와 돼지입니다.

소유와 지배가 아닌 것은 믿음과 놓아줌입니다. 저 형제자매에게도 주님의 연합이 있어서 그가 내 양이 아닌 주님의 양이라는 고백입니다. 우리가 눈에 보이는 신앙의 형태를 경쟁하는 것은 이제 하지 않습니다. 하지만 모든 것에 유익한 경건의 연습은 금식입니다. 먹는 밥의 금식이 아니라 세상 말의 금식입니다. 주님이 사십일을 금식하셨듯이 간혹 우리도 세상에 속한 말들을 금식하는 경건의 연습을 할 이유가 있습니다.

As far as we know, "Don't judge others" makes me think, "So are you telling me just to overlook the person who is guilty and is harming others?" It's impossible. If you do as the Lord said, 'whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also', you will always be cheated out of the world. I think we believers should live with the wisdom of judging the world rather than being deceived by the world.

We seek to find the inner meaning of the Lord. And I believe that it is contained clearly in the scriptures, not speculation or pork-barrel interpretation. So is today's comment. "For in the way you judge, you will be judged." It's often like, "There's nothing to talk about others, I'm like that in case. We just live with people who are not good enough." It's not that kind of whining. It's more like, "When I'm in a state of mind, everything looks like that."

And in the following words, the Lord referred to the expression‎ "in the eye" six times. Emphasis by repetition. Most of you would agree that this eye here refers to the state of mind. In other words, today's talk is about 'What do I see the world with?' But the Lord compared the speck and the log with these eyes. The speck has been translated as it is, but what the Lord originally said was just a log.

In other words, He said there was a speck in other people's eyes and a large log in my eyes. We know the opposite. What is in my eyes is generous, and that of others is harsh. The Lord said that this perception must change. At this time, the most common thing people say is to 'change your standpoint and think about it differently'. What the Lord was trying to say is not such a common story.

The Lord immediately follows the story of dogs and swine. Then you will think that people are the ones who are not dogs or pigs. And of course, dogs, swine, and people here are all referring to people. You can also think that people are allowed to be holy. Here's a hint. Holiness does not work by changing things from one thing to another. You become holy only by the presence of God.

In other words, as the Lord mentioned above, it is only possible to see the log in my eyes and see the speck in others' eyes when we are unified with the Lord. Dogs and pigs eventually move to eat. These are the people who have all the reasons and objectives of the movement in the question of "What shall we eat?" that is, knowing that possession and domination make themselves what they are. Even if you serve others, eventually, possession and domination, even if you work hard, still possession and domination, then you are dogs and pigs.

What is not possession and domination is faith and release. That sibling also has a union with the Lord, so it is a confession that he is the Lord's sheep, not mine. We no longer compete with the visible form of faith. But the practice of godliness that is beneficial for everything is fasting. It is not the fast of eating rice, it is the fast of worldly speech. Sometimes we have reason to practice godliness to fast worldly speech, just as the Lord fasted forty days.
