The biggest cause of air pollution in urban environment is diesel vehicles
Looking at the amount of particulate matter reduction compared to the eco-friendly car supply budget of the Ministry of Environment, it costs 5 billion won per ton, renewable energy business is about 500 million won per ton, and CNG route bus replacement business is about 70 million won per ton, but, the efficiency of government budget is quite lower than eco-friendly vehicle project although it is 70 times bigger budget is required.
The government’s fiscal input for responding to Particulate Matter has significantly and widely increased 67% compared to original budget from 0.9 trillion in 2016 to 1.4 trillion won of additional budget in 2019.
The central government and local governments are making various efforts to reduce smog from automobile, but, until now, it is very limited to support to attach DPF device(exhaust gas reduction device) for Diesel vehicles.
In this reality, in a field experiment on EIDI product (Developed by SungGwang Smog Control Co., Ltd. (CEO Hong Geum-pyo)) adapting a hydrodynamic fluid function and centrifugal force of aerodynamics, local governments such as Eunpyeong-gu Office have confirmed fuel saving performance as well as smog reduction. The group including the Ministry of Environment's subsidiary, Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, are focusing their attention on EIDI by showing their willingness to actively utilize it as a life-type attachment device to reduce air pollution.
A smog reduction device EIDI has been registered to the national patent list(Patent No. 10-2127140) as a device, without electric power supply as well as chemical aid for the first time in the world, that can remove particulate matter(smog) well and began to receive spot light as an innovative appropriate source technology.
After attaching EIDI to over 10 types of diesel vehicles, the flow analysis report prepared by Ajou University Automotive Team who has analyzed the smog reduction level and effect before and after attachment, is telling “When EIDI is attached to the exhaust pipe, the effect of reducing smog such as NOX(Nitrogen Oxides) and Carbon dioxides(CO2) is very high. Therefore, it is obviously known that it also has good effect on oil consumption.”

By law, all of the car owners is forced to have periodically regular inspection on ‘Comprehensive Functional Diagnosis on Vehicles” by KTSA(Korea Transportation Safety Authority) and some fail to be passed. In this case, many of failure owners actually attached EIDI to failed vehicles and reapply and finally get pass, confirming the performance of EIDI is excellent.
The internal combustion engine has the structure of intake and exhaust system in which external air passes through the air filter, a throttle valve and an intake manifold, and when the engine is operated, external air is discharged to the outside through an exhaust manifold and a catalytic converter through a muffler.
The current automobile exhaust system has a problem that the engine efficiency is naturally lost by 15-20% due to the accumulated exhaust pressure during the combustion process of the internal combustion engine. The structure of the muffler is complex and consists of multiple stages to increase the exhaust resistance, so sports vehicles and high performance vehicles are constructed in a straight line to increase emission efficiency, but, show disadvantage of big noise.
As a result of analyzing the exhausted NOX values before and after attaching EIDI-the smog reduction device of SungGwang Smog Control Co., Ltd., NOX reduction effect was proved by the values measured for Santa Fe (via, 2002 model) from 99 before attaching to 9 after attaching(90% reduced), Starex (diesel, 2010 model) was from 32 to 9(70% reduced), Porter (diesel, 2015 model) from 75 to 6(88% reduced), Bongo (diesel, 2001) reduced by 55% from 15 to 7.
In the laboratory analysis on Santa Fe(2016 model, diesel), it showed a definite analysis value as unburnt hydrocarbons(HC) decreased by 55%, Carbon monoxide(CO) decreased by 97%, Nitrogen oxides(NOX) to 0(Zero) value decreased by almost 100% and Carbon oxide(CO2) decreased by 24%.
The Ministry of Environment also announced, during Annual National Audit process in September, that it is unreasonable to continue to provide benefits such as exemption from environmental improvement charges regardless of lack of follow up management after the installation of the vehicle smog reduction device. In response to the point that the no-load rapid acceleration inspection method being implemented for the purpose of smog inspection is looser than that of Europe or Japan and a policy to correct will be established according to the service results to be proposed.
Therefore, if EIDI is additionally installed on a diesel vehicle with DPF, the diesel engine is completely burned to the extent that clear water drips are coming out from the exhaust pipe, resulting in an obvious improvement of vehicle driving performance. It is necessary to actively utilize EIDI with DPF because it has many advantages to form a complementary relationship by reducing dissatisfaction and rejection of DPF installed users.
Dr. Dong-Hwan Kim of the Environmental and International Strategic Research Institute said in ‘The cause of extreme particulate matter emission’, announced by government that the major causes in metropolitan area are diesel 29%, construction machinery 22%, heating and cooling 12%, power plant 11% and fugitive dust 10%. In country-wide, business sites are the most responsible for particulate matter as 41%, construction equipment 17%, power plants 14%, diesel cars 11%, and fugitive dust 6%, but the proportion of diesel vehicles is still high.
Various actual smog reduction analysis presented by Ajou University Research and SeongGwang Smog Control are made even by the private sector, but, those are actually analyzed by government official inspection authority ‘Korea Transportation Safety Authority(KTSA)’ and it won’t be reasonable not to acknowledge the analysis results of all domestic vehicles as incredible. Now is the time for the government to show a more proactive attitude toward particulate matter reduction policies through a comprehensive evaluation of various technologies with proliferation thinking.
In particular, EIDI products developed by SungGwang Smog Control over 15 years are inexpensive(200,000 – 600,000 KRW) and it surely can be utilized with Diesel vehicles, Vessels and military vehicles or equipment because, until now, no detrimental factors have been found in actual vehicle operation. Especially, EIDI is a new technology that can contribute to the protection of the global environment and, attaching EIDI to lots of ships that produce marine pollution means perfect reduction of various exhaust gases and organic compounds to the maximum level.
