May the Lord Be with Your Spirit
“I pray that the Lord be with your spirit. And may His grace be with all of you.”
2 Timothy 4:22
Satan does not merely tempt us to commit sin. One of his more subtle strategies is to change our perspective.
He tries to make us see sin as something acceptable, to make our own thoughts seem more trustworthy than God’s Word, and to turn our eyes away from God and toward ourselves and the circumstances around us.
That is why spiritual warfare is not simply about making a stronger resolution not to sin. We must also ask, “Through whose perspective am I looking at my life?”
The same situation can become an opportunity for faith when we see it from God’s perspective, but it can become a reason for fear, discouragement, and complaining when we look at it through a distorted perspective.
Paul prayed for Timothy, “May the Lord be with your spirit.” This was more than a simple farewell greeting. It was a prayer that the Lord would be present in Timothy’s heart, thoughts, and decisions. When the Lord rules our hearts, we can see our circumstances through God’s perspective rather than through the perspective of the world.
Hebrews 4:15 gives us great comfort:
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”
Jesus understands what it means to be tempted. He was tempted in every way as we are, yet He remained without sin. Therefore, when we are facing temptation, we can come boldly to Him. We do not have to overcome Satan’s deception by our own strength. We need the Holy Spirit to enlighten our hearts and minds so that we can recognize the deception and hold firmly to God’s truth.
Today, let us pray:
“Lord, help me not only to resist temptation itself, but also to recognize when my perspective is being changed by temptation. Keep my thoughts from becoming more important than Your Word. Let Your Holy Spirit rule my heart and mind so that I may see everything through Your eyes.”
Today’s Thought:
We overcome Satan’s deception not by relying on our own strength, but by holding firmly to the Lord’s perspective through the Holy Spirit.
