必圖(필도)는 의도하고 져 하는 것을 새겨 두는 것이다.

  Pildo(Absolute lntent) means engraving in one′s mind that which one intends to achieve.

 
정성에는 반드시 지켜야 하는 것이 있고,

  In sincerity, there is that which must be preserved;

믿음에는 반드시 실천해야 하는 것이 있고,

  in faith, there is that which must be practiced;

사랑에는 반드시 용서해야 하는 것이 있고,

  in love, there is that which must be forgiven;

구제에는 반드시 지혜로워야 하는 것이 있으니 이는 인간의 天性(천성)인 것이다.

  and in relief(charity), there is that which must be wise;

   for this is the true nature of human beingd.

이와는 반대로 사소한 마음을 가지고 반드시 사람을 해치려는 마음으로
모략을 궁리하고 삐뚫어진 것을 찾아서 뒤진다 하더라도

  On the contrary, even if one harbors a petty mind,

  devising conspiracies with an absolute intent to haem others,

  and digging around to find faults and crookedness,

 
남을 해치지도 못하고 그 미움을 잊지도 못하니 

  they will neither succeed in harming others nor be able to forget their own hatred.

오직 스스로의 天性(천성)이 멸망하게 될 뿐인 것이니
문을 열고 바라본즉 검은 구름이 하늘에 가득하도다.

  It will only lead to the ruin of their own innate nature;

  thus, upon opening the door and iooking out, black clouds fill tje sky.

必圖者는 刻意圖之也라 於誠에 有必守요 (필도자는 각의도지야라 어성에 유필수요)

  Pildo(Absolute Intent) means engraving one′s will to strive for it,

  In sincerity, there is that which must be firmly kept;

於信에 有必踐이요 於愛에 有必恕요 於濟에 有必智니 (어신에 유필천이요 어애에 유필서요 어제에 유필지니)

  in faith, there is that which must be practiced;

  in love, there is that which must be forgiving;

  and in relief(charity), there is that which must be wise.

此人之天性也라 反此하여 (차인지천성야라 반차하여)

  This is the true nature of human beings. Acting contrary to this,

於微嫌에 有必圖傷人之心하여 (어미혐에 유필도상인지심하여)

  if one, driven by petty reaentment, harbors a resolute intent to harm others,

覓謀尋險하여 不傷不忘이면 天性이 滅矣라 (멱모심험하여 불상불망이면 천성이 멸의라)

  devising conspiracies and seeking malicious ways―Yet failing to harm them while being unable

  to forget the hatred ―their own innate nature will be utterly ruined.

開戶視之에 黑雲滿天이니라. (개호시지에 흑운만천이니라.)

  Upon opening the door and iooking out, black clouds fill the sky.

  [풀이]

정성(誠,성)에는 반드시 지켜야 하는 것이있고, 믿음(信,신)에는 반드시 실천해야 하는 것이 있고,
사랑(愛,애)에는 반드시 용서해야 하는 것이 있고, 구제(濟,제)에는 반드시 지혜로워야 하는 것이 있으니
이는 인간의 天性(천성)인 것이다라는 내용은 본 경전 上經(상경)의 핵심을 잘 설명하는 말이다.

  The statement ―that in sincerity(誠,성), there is that which must be preserved;

   in faith(信,신), there is that which must be practiced;

   in love(愛,애), there is that which must be forgiven;

    and in relief(濟,제), there is that which must be wise,

    for this is the true nature of human beings ―is a passage that well explains

    the core essence of the First Volume(上經,상경) of this scripture.

모든 일의 원인이 되는 이내용에 역행하였을 때 돌아오는 것은 곧 禍(화)뿐일 것이다. 

  When one goes against these principles, which serve as the root cause of all things,

  that which returns will be nothing but misfortune(禍,화).
