The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Determination~(초발심공덕품3-2)

[眞如華]

     3-2.

     法慧菩薩      言      佛子      此人功德      比菩薩初發心功德      百分      不及一      千分      不及一      百千分      不及一      如是億分      百億分      千億分      百千億分      那由他億分      百那由他億分      千那由他億分      百千那由他億分      數分      歌羅分      算分      喩分      優波尼沙陀分      亦不及一

     법혜보살이 말하였습니다. “불자여, 이 사람의 공덕을 보살이 처음 발심한 공덕에 견주어 보면, 백 분의 일에도 미치지 못하고, 천분의 일에도 미치지 못하고, 백천 분의 일에도 미치지 못하고. 이와 같이 억 분과 백억 분과 천억 분과 백천억 분과 나유타억 분과 백 나유타억 분과 천 나유타억 분과 백천 나유타억 분과 수 분과 가라 분과 산 분과 유 분과 우파니사타 분의 일에도 미치지 못하느니라.”

Truth Wisdom said,

“If the merit of this person is compared with the merit of a Bodhisattva who has first aroused the aspiration for enlightenment, it does not reach even one-hundredth part, nor one-thousandth part, nor one-hundred-thousandth part. In this way, it does not reach even one part in a hundred million, nor one part in a thousand million, nor one part in a hundred thousand million, nor one part in a nayuta million, nor one part in a hundred nayuta million, nor one part in a thousand nayuta million, nor one part in a hundred thousand nayuta million, nor one part expressible in number, nor one part expressible as a kalā, nor one part expressible by calculation, nor one part expressible by comparison, nor even one part of an upaniṣad.

Truth Wisdom said; 법혜보살이 말하였습니다

If the merit of this person; 이 사람의 공덕을

has first aroused the aspiration for enlightenment

; 보살이 처음 발심한

is compared with the merit of a Bodhisattva who

; 공덕에 견주어 보면

it does not reach even one-hundredth part

; 백 분의 일에도 미치지 못하고

nor one-thousandth part

; 천분의 일에도 미치지 못하고,

nor one-hundred-thousandth part

; 백천 분의 일에도 미치지 못하고

In this way; 이와 같이

it does not reach; 미치지 못하느니라

even one part in a hundred million; 억 분과

nor one part in a thousand million; 백억 분과

nor one part in a hundred thousand million

; 천억 분과

nor one part in a nayuta million; 나유타억 분과

nor one part in a hundred nayuta million

; 백 나유타억 분과

nor one part in a thousand nayuta million

; 천 나유타억 분과

nor one part in a hundred thousand nayuta million

; 백천 나유타억 분과

nor one part expressible in number; 수 분과

nor one part expressible as a kalā; 가라 분과

nor one part expressible by calculation; 산 분과

nor one part expressible by comparison; 유 분과

nor even one part of an upaniṣad; 우파니사타 분의
