[틈틈이 영어공부] you want to settle down and have a family?

- 영한 : (결혼해서) 정착하다, (조용히 한 곳에 자리 잡고) 정착하다, 안정되다.

- 영영 : to begin to live a quiet and steady life by getting a regular job, getting married, etc.

- 다른 의미 : (흥분을) 가라앉히다, 진정하다, ~를 진정시키다.

It always takes the class a while to settle down at the start of the lesson. 
수업이 시작될 때에는 항상 반 학생들이 진정되는 데 어느 정도 시간이 걸린다.

Mel: I've never heard you say that before. Your weekends are usually filled with women and parties.
멜: 전에는 한 번도 그런 말 안 하더니. 주말이면 대개 여자와 파티의 연속이었잖아.

Tyler: So was this weekend but partying doesn't seem like a big deal anymore.
타일러: 이번 주말에도 그랬어. 그런데 파티도 이제 별 것 아닌 것 같아.

Mel: I never thought I'd hear you say that.
멜: 네가 그런 말 할 거라고는 생각도 못했다.

Tyler: Well, I've been thinking about it but it's the first time I've actually said it.
타일러: 그런 생각은 죽 했지만 입 밖으로 낸 건 이번이 처음이야.

Mel: What brought this about?
멜: 왜 그런 생각이 들었어?

Tyler: When my brother and his wife had their first baby I was jealous.
타일러: 형하고 형수한테 첫 애가 생기니까 부러웠어.

Mel: Are you saying that you want to settle down and have a family?
멜: 너도 정착해서 가정을 꾸렸으면 좋겠다는 말이야?

Tyler: That’s exactly what I’m saying.
타일러: 바로 그거야.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ nothing to get excited about: 신이 날 일이 없다

▶ big deal: (반어적으로) 대단치 않다.
“What’s the big deal about the movie? I didn’t like it.”
