My Visionary Role Model, Reed Hastings

Hello, I am Jia from Munhyang High School. I dream of becoming a professional in business administration and marketing. Currently, I am leading a school club called "BIT" (Big Data Insight), where we explore how data-driven decisions shape our world. I believe that a great leader must possess both logical insight and a bold spirit. That is why my role model is Reed Hastings, the co-founder of Netflix. I chose him so that I could learn how to effectively combine big data with creative business strategies.

Reed Hastings was born in Boston and showed a remarkable talent for analytical thinking from a very young age. He was so passionate about mathematics that he spent most of his childhood solving complex problems rather than just playing. This mathematical background helped him become a great problem solver later in life. It taught him that every problem has a logical solution if you look at the data carefully. After graduating from college, he did not immediately enter the corporate world. Instead, he joined the Peace Corps and went to Swaziland, Africa, to teach math. This unexpected challenge made him a more confident person. If he were a person who feared risks or preferred a stable life, he would not take such a bold step into the unknown. He learned to manage extreme difficulties in a distant land so that he could stay calm and focused even under immense pressure in the business world later on.

The story of Netflix began with a simple, everyday problem. One day, Hastings was so frustrated by a 40-dollar late fee for a rented movie that he decided to start his own business to fix this "pain point." This creative idea enabled Netflix to transform the entire entertainment industry by introducing a subscription model. He was so focused on innovation that he never stopped searching for new ways to serve customers better, eventually moving from physical DVDs to digital streaming. What I admire most is his foresight. Even when the DVD rental business was highly successful, he foresaw that the future belonged to streaming. If he did not have such a great vision to predict technological shifts, Netflix would not be the global giant it is today. Furthermore, he managed the company so that every employee could work with a culture of "Freedom and Responsibility," trusting people's potential rather than controlling them with strict rules.

As the leader of the "BIT" club, I want my activities to provide me with the same kind of insight that Hastings possessed. I am so determined to achieve my goals in the marketing field that I will not let any future uncertainty stop me. I will continue to study hard and analyze data so that I can become a notable and innovative business leader like Reed Hastings. Thank you for reading.
