프랑스 전역에서 학교 제도의 실태를 둘러싼 격렬한 학생 시위가 일어났다.

Violent student protests erupt across France over conditions in the country’s school system.

🎓🏫👨‍🏫📚💻 프랑스의 교육제도(Education System in France)는 고도로 중앙집권화되어 있으며 세부적으로 여러 단계로 나뉜다. 교육 과정은 초등교육(enseignement primaire), 중등교육(enseignement secondaire), 고등교육(enseignement supérieur)의 3단계로 구분된다. 만 2세 아동은 초등학교가 아닌 유아학교(preschool)에 다니기 시작한다. 이후 만 6세가 되면 초등학교에 입학하여 졸업할 때까지 각 학년을 거쳐 진급하게 된다. 프랑스의 고등교육 과정에서 수여되는 학위 중 볼로냐 프로세스(EU 차원의 학위 인정 체계)에 따라 인정받는 학위로는 리상스(Licence) 및 리상스 프로페시오넬(Licence Professionnelle, 이상 학사학위), 그리고 명칭이 유사한 마스터(Master) 및 독토라(Doctorat, 박사학위)가 있다. OECD가 주관한 2018년 국제 학업 성취도 평가(PISA) 결과, 프랑스 15세 학생들의 읽기, 수학, 과학 분야 전반적인 지식 및 역량 순위는 세계 26위로 나타났으며, 이는 OECD 평균 점수인 493점보다 낮은 수준이었다. 과학 및 수학 분야에서 프랑스 15세 학생들의 평균 성취도는 하락세를 보였으며, 읽기·수학·과학 영역 모두에서 성취도가 낮은 학생의 비율이 급격히 증가했다. 또한 수학과 과학 분야에서 최상위 성취를 보인 학생의 비율도 감소했다. 1995년 실시된 국제 수학·과학 성취도 추이 비교 연구(TIMSS)에서 프랑스의 중학교 수준 수학 및 과학 성취도는 23위를 기록했다. 2019년 TIMSS 과학 분야 종합 순위에서는 21위를 차지했다.
