The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Determination~(초발심공덕품4-4)

[眞如華]

     4-4.

     何以故      佛子      一切諸佛      初發心時      不但爲以一切樂具      供養十方十阿僧祗世界所有衆生      經於百劫      乃至百千那由他億劫故      發菩提心

     무슨 까닭인가. 불자여, 모든 부처님께서 처음 발심할 때 다만 온갖 즐길 거리로써 시방의 열 아승지세계에 있는 중생들에게 공양하기를, 백 겁 동안이나 내지 백 천 나유타억 겁 동안을 지내기 위하여 보리심을 낸 것이 아니니라.

Why? Because when the Buddhas first set their minds on enlightenment, they do not do so just to provide the beings of innumerable worlds in all directions with all comforts for a hundred eons or even for a hundred thousand nayuta koṭi eons.

Why? Because; 무슨 까닭인가

the Buddhas; 모든 부처님께서

when ~ first set their minds on enlightenment

; 처음 발심할 때

just to provide; 다만 ~ 공양하기를

the beings of innumerable worlds

; 열 아승지세계에 있는 중생들에게

in all directions; 시방의

with all comforts; 온갖 즐길 거리로써

for a hundred eons; 백 겁 동안이나

or even for a hundred thousand nayuta koṭi eons

; 내지 백 천 나유타억 겁 동안을 지내기 위하여

they do not do so; 보리심을 낸 것이 아니니라
