[틈틈이 영어공부] Ten flights of stairs!

- 영한 : ~개 층의 계단, 계단 한층

- 영한 : a stairway (set of steps) between one floor or landing and the next

- 예문 : 
We had to cart our luggage up six flights of stairs. 
우리는 짐을 들고 층계단을 여섯 개를 올라가야 했다.

We had to carry the piano up three flights of stairs. 
우리는 그 피아노를 층계참이 세 번이나 있는 계단 위로 운반해야 했다.

You walked up eight flights of stairs? 
8층을 걸어서 올라왔다구요?

Don: It's hard to believe that all of the elevators are broken down.
단: 승강기가 모두 고장 났다니 말이 안 돼.

Eric: This is no way to start the day.
에릭: 하루를 이렇게 시작하다니.

Don: That means that we have to walk up the stairs.
단: 계단을 걸어 올라가야 한다는 거네.

Eric: Ten flights of stairs!
에릭: 계단을 10층이나!

Don: Come on it won't be so bad.
단: 왜 이래 그렇게 힘들 지 않을 거야.

Eric: Don't tell me you're going to get into this.
에릭: 정말 걸어 올라가려는 건 아니지.

Don: Yeah. Walking up stairs is excellent exercise.
단: 그럴 거야. 계단 걷기가 얼마나 좋은 운동인데.

Eric: Not the first thing.
에릭: 일어나자마자 할 일은 아니지.

Don: It won't do any good to whine about it.
단: 불평 한다고 도움되는 거 아니잖아.

Eric: That's your opinion. I think there are advantages to whining about it.
에릭: 그건 네 생각이고 불평하는 게 이익이 되기도 해.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ break down: 고장나다.
“His old car is always breaking down.”
(그 사람 고물 차는 항상 고장이야.)

▶ get into (something): (무엇에) 흥미를 붙이다.
“My grandmother is really getting into her computer.”
(우리 할머니는 정말 컴퓨터에 재미를 붙이셨어.)

▶ (the) first thing: 일어나자 마자, 출근하자 마자.
“The boss wants to see you first thing tomorrow.”
(사장님이 내일 아침 출근하자 마자 자넬 보자셔.)
