*hold (someone) up

- 영한 : 지연시키다, 방해하다, 가로막다.

- 영영 : to delay, stop, or slow the movement, progress, or action of (something or someone)

- 예문 :

Lance: You sound like my mother.
랜스: 너 엄마처럼 그런다.

Sharon: It can't be helped. I'm a woman.
샤론: 어쩔 수 없지. 나도 여자잖아.

Lance: I have noticed that.
랜스: 그건 알지.

Sharon: So why are you meeting Bob and Chris tonight?
샤론: 그래 오늘 밤 밥하고 크리스하고 왜 만나?

Lance: We're going to the Dodger game.
랜스: 우리 다저스 게임 보러 가려고.


[기억할만한 표현]
▶ show up: 나타나다.
“If he shows up late again, I’m not going to wait for him.” 
(그 사람이 또 늦게 나타나면 안 기다릴 거야.)

▶ After all: (예상과는 달리) 결국에는, 어쨌든(설명/이유를 덧붙일 때)
"So you made it after all!"
(그래 네가 결국에는 (그것을) 해냈구나!)

▶ It can’t be helped: 어쩔 수 없다.
“It’s not an ideal situation, but it can’t be helped.” 
(최상의 상황은 아니지만 어쩔 수 없어.)
