더불어민주당 차기 당대표를 뽑는 8·17 전당대회에 선호투표제를 적용할지를 놓고 10일에도 친명(친이재명)계와 친청(친정청래)계가 정면 충돌했다. 이날 오전 최고위원회의에서 결론을 내지 못한 민주당은 결정을 위해 밤 9시에 다시 최고위를 열려다가 약 40분 전 취소했다. 한병도 당대표 직무대행 겸 원내대표는 “(조율) 노력을 좀 더 해봐야 할 것 같아 오늘은 못 연다”며 주말에 다시 논의하겠다고 밝혔다.

그러자 친청계 이성윤 최고위원은 “(선호투표제는) 명백하게 당헌·당규 위반”이라고 했다. 민주당 당헌은 ‘당대표 선출을 위해 결선투표 등을 실시할 수 있다’고 돼 있는데, 선호투표는 결선투표와 다른 별개의 투표 방식이라는 것이다. 박규환 최고위원도 “음험하게 당헌을 훼손하면서까지 사사로운 이익을 도모하는 행태는 사라져야 한다”고 했다.

친명계 당권 주자인 김민석 전 총리는 이날 전북도청 출입기자단 간담회에서 “(선수가) 룰에 대해서 시비를 많이 걸면 좀 치사해진다”고 했다. 송영길 의원도 광주KBS 인터뷰에서 “(선호투표제는) 당연히 결선투표의 일종으로 해석해야 한다”고 했다. 반면 정청래 전 대표는 “작년 당무위 결정은 작년 일”이라며 “당헌·당규 위반이라는 논란에서 비켜가기는 어려울 것 같다”고 했다.

청년 최고위원제 도입을 두고도 친명계는 선출직 청년 최고위원을 두자고 한 반면, 친청계는 당대표가 지명하는 방식으로 운영하자고 맞서고 있다. 현재 청년 최고위원 출마를 선언한 후보들은 모두 정 전 대표에 비판적이다.
