Aligning My Heart with God’s Heart for Others
“Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.”
(Matthew 11:20, NIV)
Jesus performed many miracles in certain towns. The people experienced God’s power and heard the words of Jesus. Yet experiencing grace does not automatically mean that a person will repent. Jesus rebuked those towns because, despite the grace they had received, they did not turn back to God.
Grace should not simply make us grateful. It should transform us and turn our hearts toward God and toward other people.
Oswald Chambers wrote that being a disciple means deliberately identifying ourselves with God’s interests in other people. He emphasized that Christian discipleship cannot be governed merely by our natural likes and dislikes. We are called to see people as God sees them and to care about what God cares about.
When Jesus says, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect,” He is speaking in the context of loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us. God causes His sun to rise on both the evil and the good and sends rain on both the righteous and the unrighteous. Therefore, the disciple’s love must go beyond personal feelings and preferences and reflect the heart of the Father.
So today, we can ask ourselves:
“Am I only looking at the people I want to love, or am I beginning to see the people God cares about?”
Being a disciple does not stop with believing in Jesus. It means beginning to carry the heart of Jesus. It means learning to love the people God loves—even those we may not understand, those who are difficult for us, or even those who have hurt us.
Today, when you meet someone, ask God to help you see that person not merely through your own feelings, but through His heart.
“Lord, align my heart with Your heart.
Do not let me love only those whom I want to love.
Teach me to care about the people You care about.
When I look at someone today, help me to see that person with Your heart.”
Key Thought:
"Being a disciple means aligning my heart with God’s heart and loving the people He cares about."
