“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3 NIV)
The omnipotent God has unspeakable, awe-inspiring power. No one can
figure out how to make something out of nothing;
yet by his power, God
spoke the universe and the world /into existence. Through powerful
instruments in use today, we know that our galaxy alone has billions and
billions of stars … and that there are trillions of galaxies out
there. Our sun is a star; but there are stars that dwarf our sun by
comparison— stars that are actually too big to fit between the earth and
the sun.
* omnopotent; (of a deity) having unlimited power; able to do anything.
So if you think () your problem is too big, wake up! Nothing is
too big for God. He not only created all the stars; he calls them each
by name. That is how powerful God is. If you feel () you have nothing
/going on in your life right now or that you have nothing to offer, that
is not an obstacle for God. He can just speak; and out of nothing,
things can happen and come to pass in our lives.
But here’s something even more special. [This God //who created all those
stars, who spoke everything into existence, who started time— this God
also heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Because
sometimes you don’t need an explosion of star power. When a spouse
walks out on you, or your own friend turns on you— when your heart is
broken— you need someone //who can heal that place in you that no one else
can reach. You can put balm on physical wounds… but inner wounds
/resulting from a broken heart? Only Jesus can heal those wounds. More
than that: he can take care of the scars /so you don’t have to live with
an edge for the rest of your life.
Imagine the wounds //that the apostle Peter had /after he denied Jesus.
Imagine how broken he must have been and how afraid he must have been /to
face the Lord /when he learned that he had risen. But Jesus made a
private appearance to Peter /after his resurrection, and he restored him;
as he may want to do with someone /reading this selection today.
The omnipotent Creator of the universe, who said, “Let there be light,”
is the same God of whom the Bible speaks /when it says,
“A bruised reed
he will not break…” (Isaiah 42:3). [The one //who counts the stars and
calls them by name] is the same one //who wants to heal your broken heart
today.
* Let there be light = Let light be there
If you feel wounded, don’t become bitter; instead, bring it to Jesus
and tell him, “Lord, I need you to bind up my wounds.”
Almighty God,
the Creator of heaven and earth, is also your heavenly Father; and he
will heal and sustain you by his tender mercy and by his power.
