제 5조......陰(음)......비밀스럽게 꾀함..........第217事.

  Section 5 : Eum(陰,음)... Secretly Scheming / Plotting In Secret... Case No. 217

陰(음)은 비밀스럽게 꾀하는 것이다.

  Eum(Secret Scheming) means to plot or devise a plan in secret.

義(의)로움이 다하여  어찌할 수 없게 되었을 때 비밀스럽게 꾀를 부리는 것이다.

  When righteousness is exhausted and one is left with no choice,

   one resorts to scheming in secret.

술책이 다하여 어찌할 수 없을 때 비밀스러운 꾀가 나타난다.

  When open stratagems are wxhausted and one becomes helpless,

  secret plots begin to emerge.

욕망이 극에 달할때 비밀스러운 꾀를 세우게 된다.

  When desire reaches its peak, one ends up establishing secret schemes.

그러나 비밀스러운 꾀로 이루어지는 것은 단지 재앙일 따름이다.

 However, that which is accomplished through secret  scheming wii only result in disaster.

陰은 陰謀也라  (음은 음모야라)

  Eum(Secret Scheming) means to plot or devise a conspiracy in secret.

義窮歸陰謀하며 術盡生陰謀하고  (의궁귀음모하며 술진생음모하고)

  When righteousness is exhausted, one resorts to secret scheming;

  and when open stratagems run dry, conspiracies are born.

欲極에 立陰謀  (욕극에 입음모)

  When desire reaches its absolute peak, one establishes secret schemes.

陰謀而成者는 禍也라.  (음모이성자는 화야라.)

  That which is accomplished through secret scheming is nothing but disaster.

[Explanation, 풀이]

마땅히 해야할 일을 하는 義(의)로움이 있다면 숨길것도 비밀스러울것도 없다.

  If there is righteousness(義,의) in doing what ought to be done,

   there is nothing to hide and nothing to keep secret.

그러나 義(의)를 실천하는 것은 항상 희생을 요구한다.

  However, practicing righteousness always demands sacrifice.

희생없이 욕망만을 채우려들때 갖가지 비밀스러운 잔꾀를 세우게 된다.

  When one attempts to satisfy only their desires without any sacrifice,

  they resort to devising all sorts of secret, petty tricks.

그러나 義(의)로움으로도 이루기 어려운 일을 잔재주로 이룰 수 있겠는가?

  But how can one achieve through petty  tricks what is difficult to accomplish

   even with righteousness?

그 결과는 오로지 禍(화)로 돌아올 다름이다. 

  The result will inevitably return as nothing but misfortune(禍,화)
