The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Edtermination~(초발심공덕품7-4)

[眞如華]

     7-4.

     何以故      佛子      菩薩      不齊限      但爲知爾所衆生解故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心      爲盡知一切世界所有衆生      種種差別解故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心

     무슨 까닭인가, 불자여, 보살은 분제를 나누고 한계를 지어서 다만 저러한 중생들의 이해를 알기 위해서만 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이 아니고, 일체 세계에 있는 중생의 가지가지 차별한 이해를 모두 알기 위하여 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이니라.

Why? Because enlightening beings do not set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment just to know the understandings of a particular limited number of sentient beings. They set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment to know the various different understandings of all sentient beings in all worlds.

Why? Because; 무슨 까닭인가

enlightening beings; 보살은

of a particular limited number

; 분제를 나누고 한계를 지어서

the understandings ~ of sentient beings

; 저러한 중생들의 이해를

just to know; 다만 ~ 알기 위해서만

do not set their minds; ~ 심을 내는 것이 아니고

on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment

; 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리

in all worlds; 일체 세계에 있는

of all sentient beings; 중생의

the various different understandings

; 가지가지 차별한 이해를

to know; 모두 알기 위하여

They set their minds; ~ 심을 내는 것이니라
