Andrew Wiggins, Timberwolves
Something good: 적극적인 모습.
Something to work on: 볼을 가지고 있을 때 참을성.
Jabari Parker, Bucks
Something to work on: 볼 컨트롤하기.
Dante Exum, Jazz
Something to work on:
Marcus Smart, Celtics
Something to work on: 슈팅.
Nerlens Noel, 76ers
Something good: 아웃렛 패싱.
Something to work on: 목적을 가진 드리블링.
Nik Stauskas, Kings
Something good: 노력.
Something to work on: 더 나은 샷들을 시도하기.
Elfrid Payton, Magic
Something to work on: 슈팅, 슈팅, 슈팅.
Rodney Hood, Jazz
Something good: 수비.
Something to work on: 플로어 질주하기.
Shabazz Napier, Heat
Something good: 코트 파악력.
Something to work on: 수비.

The biggest challenge for NBA rookies is that they are dealing with far taller, longer and stronger men than they have ever faced on a nightly basis. On top of that, they must contend with the sheer overall intelligence of NBA veterans, who pick on rookies because they know they can early on.
But rookies learn quickly. The big question is how fast can they begin to limit their mistakes as they stop "playing the game" and start "reading the actions" -- moving the needle toward a positive impact overall, the clear goal of most rookies.
Here's a look at how some of the big-name rookies who are getting significant playing time are performing:
Something good: Being assertive. Wiggins has shown he isn't afraid of taking shots and making plays. He has confidence that he can make shots, using shooting mechanics that are fluid and relatively consistent. His first made basket as a pro was a 3-pointer, the first of many to be sure. Unlike most elite-level athletes who enter the NBA needing to work on their shooting, Wiggins is already solid in this area.
His assertiveness can also be seen on the defensive end. While he likely cost his team a win against the Bulls when he jumped to block a shot by Jimmy Butler as the game clock ticked to zero -- only to have Butler pull the ball down and absorb contact from the elevating Wiggins to draw the foul -- the good news is it's a mistake countless NBA veterans make constantly and Wiggins actually has the length and quickness to contest that shot without fouling far better than many of those vets. The Wolves have to be happy with his overall assertiveness.
Something to work on: Patience with the ball. Wiggins wants to get to the rim, but really tall dudes await him there. Yet he still drives right into them without really having an angle to explode over or around them. His turnover rate is one of the worst in the class for this reason.
As he gains more experience, he will learn to time his slashes better, when the lane to the rim is more open. When he drives into traffic, he needs to move the ball to someone open, perhaps then popping back out for a second chance at a clearer lane after another pass or two.
Something good: Showing athleticism. After losing some weight, Parker is moving well and taking advantage of his better body by being active on the glass and in the transition game. To be a franchise player, this is one huge step in the right direction.
He totaled 21 rebounds in two games last week by just being aggressive to the ball after a shot. With great hands and a feel for the game, he is a natural rebounder, especially now that he can flow to the ball better. His ability as a ball handler also enables him to start the break by himself, which is a big advantage for his team.
Something to work on: Controlling the ball. It's one thing to help a team initiate the break as a forward but another to turn the ball over frequently in the process. Like Wiggins, Parker is in too much of a rush to make something happen. He would be better off slowing down just a bit while pushing the ball forward, limiting the risk of losing it while still keeping the chances alive for transition points to develop.
The Bucks are one of the worst teams in the league at controlling the ball -- 24th in turnover rate -- and Parker has likely been their worst offender so far.
Something good: Showing patience. Exum may not be nearly as schooled in the game as most of the other rookies in the class who attended college, but he is already ahead of all of them in one key aspect: He is not in a rush, except when he needs to be. He has made a number of "slow-fast" attack moves off the dribble, where he slowly surveys the court, perhaps waiting on a ball screen, before changing gears (and sometimes directions) to attack the rim in open space. The space is there because he lets the lane clear before attacking. His skill and athleticism take care of the rest of the play.
Something to work on: All aspects of his on-ball defense, starting with using his hands more when a shot is taken. Exum misses chances to affect shots when contesting because his arms are at his sides rather than sticking straight up. Further, his poor footwork gets him turned around when opponents use shot-fake attack moves, giving him no chance to recover to the shooter once he even finds him. Turning your back on the ball is never something a defender wants to do when it's his man who has the ball.
Something good: Knows how to use his strength. Smart is the rare rookie who has the power to hang with veteran opponents. It isn't easy to push him around; in fact, his strength enables him to be the aggressor in many instances.
On defense, combined with his length and aggressive attitude, his strength allows him to make plays on passes and soft dribbles, which result in steals and deflections or just act as a way to throw his offensive counterpart out of rhythm. It's a great way for a young player to affect the game.
Something to work on: Shooting. Smart will be a good shooter in this league, but he has struggled so far (like rookies typically do). He would be wise to eliminate attempts where he shoots the 3 after moving to get open. Instead, he should focus on shooting those shots off a stationary catch; that will help him be balanced.
Something good: Outlet passing. Noel clearly gets that he can be a great rebounder in this league, as he races to the glass when a shot goes up even when he is defending players on the perimeter. But his outlet passing is an underrated part of his game.
Noel's quick decision to throw the ball to the point guard the moment he grabs it out of the air is a key to getting Philly's early offense going. It's a talent that will serve his team well, especially considering how vital it is for the Sixers to score in transition.
Something to work on: Dribbling with purpose. Noel has so many things he needs to improve as he is still very raw, but one basic thing that can help him immediately is for him to stop dribbling as soon as he catches the ball in the half court. He must learn to catch and read or dribble into a quick attack move (rather than his current habit of dribbling nowhere initially), then he will be a lot more effective in the half-court offense.
Something good: Effort. As a rookie who is not as physically gifted as many of the other guys on the court most of the time, it's not surprising to see Stauskas struggling to slow opponents down when he's posted up or isolated on defense. But his willingness to fight has been impressive. This is not a player who sees himself only as a scorer or a shooter. His effort will eventually pay dividends.
Something to work on: Taking better shots. Stauskas is clearly confident in his skills, which is a big reason he has been such a successful player up to this point. But his game is nowhere near his confidence level, thus he is forcing many bad shots or taking shots at the wrong time in offensive sets. He would be better off waiting for an open look or creating when the numbers and spacing call for it rather than just chucking up shots just because he thinks they will drop.
Something good: Letting plays develop. This is one of the keys to successful point guard play, rather than simply moving the ball the moment someone is open. There are times to make quick passes and times to wait just a second more, allowing a teammate to get into a better scoring position.
Payton has shown some talent in this area. He has made easy passes on pick-and-pop actions to open shooters and held on to the ball at times to allow his big to dive to the rim for a layup.
Something to work on: Shooting, shooting, shooting. Many rookies have to improve their decision-making and shooting mechanics. Payton appears to have a handle on when to shoot; it's just that he is simply a bad shooter.
Seeing improvement in this area is possible this season.
Something good: Defense. Hood might be the most impressive defender of the class one week into the season in terms of footwork and contesting shots under control. He has shown the ability to move quickly to stay in front of dribble-drivers then "talling up" without jumping. While he's not going to be a great steals/deflections guy, his overall awareness and on-ball skills show he can be part of a great defense.
Something to work on: Racing the floor. Although his shot selection and mechanics are impressive, he is shooting poorly. One way to help himself on offense would be to race the floor more and run less. There are transition buckets available if he hunts them by sprinting end to end.
Something good: Court awareness. With two great weapons on the court with him in Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, Napier has space to make plays (as those guys draw defenders). Plenty of rookie point guards in the same situation would run ball-screen actions and just focus on the screener or maybe one other teammate, but Napier is aware of where all four teammates are on the floor. He has made some excellent passes to teammates standing farthest from him, creating great looks.
Something to work on: Defense. Napier is having trouble staying attached on defense when his man drives to the rim. Napier is getting beat in just a step or two then stopping rather than continuing to follow his guy in the hopes of recovering or staying involved with the play.
