더불어민주당 당대표 후보는 5명으로 확정된 가운데 최고위원 후보들도 속속 출마 선언을 이어가고 있다. 총 5명을 뽑는 최고위원 선거에는 현재까지 12명이 출마를 선언했거나 유력하게 고심 중이다. 이 중 21일 컷오프(예비 경선)를 통해 8명이 본경선에 진출할 예정이다. 이번 최고위원 선거 결과에 따라 차기 민주당 지도부에서 친명(친이재명), 친청(친정청래) 어느 쪽이 과반을 점할지 결정된다.

친청계에선 3명의 후보가 출마설이 나오는 가운데 최민희 의원이 처음으로 출마를 공식화했다. 최 의원은 13일 KBS라디오에서 “줄 서는 정치는 하지 않는다”면서도 “정청래 전 대표가 얘기하는 정직한 정치, 개혁 과제를 빨리 완수하고 이재명 정부 성공을 통한 총선 승리로 나아가자는 것에 동의한다”고 말했다. 정 전 대표의 당대표 시절 비서실장을 지낸 한민수 의원도 14일 출마 선언을 한다. 현재 최고위원인 이성윤 의원은 최고위원 재선 도전과 전북도당위원장 도전을 두고 고심 중인 것으로 전해졌다. 이 밖에 박승원 광명시장도 최고위원 출마 선언을 한 상태다.

민주당이 처음으로 선출직으로 뽑겠다고 한 청년최고위원 후보로는 김형남 전 군인권센터 사무국장, 정민철 정책위 부의장이 출마 의사를 밝혔다. 다만 청년최고위원제가 도입되면 최고위원 5석 중 한 자리가 줄어들기 때문에 일부 후보가 반대하고 있는 상황이라서 최종 확정은 되지 않았다.

The Democratic Party of Korea’s leadership race has narrowed to five candidates for party representative, while Supreme Council member hopefuls continue to declare their bids. A total of 12 individuals have either announced their candidacy or are strongly considering running for the five available Supreme Council seats.
