The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Determination~(초발심공덕품8-4)

[眞如華]

     8-4.

     何以故      菩薩      不齊限      但爲知爾所世界衆生根故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心      爲盡知一切世界中一切衆生根      種種差別      廣說乃至欲盡知一切諸根網故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心

     무슨 까닭인가, 보살이 분제를 나누고 한계를 지어서 다만 저러한 세계 중생들의 근성을 알기 위하여 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 낸 것이 아니라, 일체 세계 가운데 있는 일체 중생의 근성이 갖가지로 차별한 것을 모두 알기 위한 것이며, 더 널리 말하면 내지 일체 근성의 그물을 모두 알려는 연고로 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이니라.

Why? Because enlightening beings do not set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment just to know the faculties of sentient beings in a given limited number of worlds. It is to know all the various differences in faculties of all beings in all worlds, wanting to know the network of all faculties, that they set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment.

Why? Because; 무슨 까닭인가

enlightening beings; 보살이

in a given limited number of worlds

; 분제를 나누고 한계를 지어서 다만 저러한 세계

the faculties; 근성을

of sentient beings; 중생들의

just to know; 알기 위하여

unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment

; 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리

do not set their minds; 심을 낸 것이 아니라

in faculties of all beings; 일체 중생의 근성이

in all worlds; 일체 세계 가운데 있는

the various differences; 갖가지로 차별한 것을

It is to know all; 모두 알기 위한 것이며

wanting to know; 모두 알려는 연고로

the network of all faculties; 내지 일체 근성의 그물을

that they set their minds on; 심을 내는 것이니라

unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment
