Korea lost to Chinese Taipei 5-4 in extra innings at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) on Sunday, coming out on the wrong end of a back-and-forth battle with multiple lead changes.

한국은 일요일 월드 베이스볼 클래식(WBC)에서 대만에 연장전 끝에 5-4로 패했다. 여러 차례 리드가 바뀌는 접전 끝에 아쉽게 패배한 것이다.

Chinese Taipei broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 10th and stranded the tying run at second in the bottom half of that inning at Tokyo Dome, finishing Pool C play with a record of 2-2.

대만은 10회초 4-4 동점 상황에서 역전에 성공했지만, 10회말 동점 주자를 2루에 묶어두면서 C조 2승 2패로 조별리그를 마감했다.

Korea has now lost two straight games after an opening win over Czechia. With a 1-2 record, Korea will wrap up the first round against Australia at 7 p.m. Monday.

한국은 체코와의 개막전 승리 이후 2연패를 당했다. 1승 2패의 한국은 오는 월요일 저녁 7시 호주와의 경기로 조별리그 마지막 경기를 치른다.

The top two teams at the end of pool play on Tuesday will qualify for the quarterfinals.

화요일 조별 예선 종료 후 상위 두 팀이 8강에 진출한다.

Australia, 2-0, will face another 2-0 nation, Japan, in Sunday's night cap at the dome. If Australia upsets Japan, then Korea will be eliminated from knockout contention. If Japan prevails, then Korea will still have a chance to advance in a tiebreaking situation by beating Australia on Monday.

2승 무패의 호주는 일요일 밤 돔 경기장에서 역시 2승 무패인 일본과 맞붙는다. 만약 호주가 일본을 이기면 한국은 8강 진출이 좌절된다. 일본이 승리하더라도 한국은 월요일 호주와의 경기에서 승리하면 타이브레이킹으로 8강에 진출할 가능성이 있다.

Korea is trying to make it out of the opening round for the first time since 2009.

한국은 2009년 이후 처음으로 1라운드를 통과하기 위해 노력하고 있다.

Chinese Taipei opened the scoring in the top of the second, as Chang Yu led off the inning with a solo home run off starter Ryu Hyun-jin.

대만은 2회초 선두 타자 장위가 선발 투수 류현진을 상대로 솔로 홈런을 터뜨리며 선취점을 올렸다.

Ryu escaped a two-out, two-on jam in the third by striking out Stuart Fairchild.

류현진은 3회말 2사 2루 위기에서 스튜어트 페어차일드를 삼진으로 잡아내며 위기를 넘겼다.

Kim Ju-won led off the third with a single, Korea's first hit off starter Gu Lin Ruei-Yang, but Kim was caught trying to steal second and got caught in a rundown.

김주원은 3회초 선두 타자로 나와 선발 투수 구린루이양을 상대로 안타를 쳤지만, 2루 도루를 시도하다 런다운에 걸려 아웃되었다.

Gu Lin then got the two quick outs to keep Korea off the board.

이후 구린루이양은 빠르게 두 개의 아웃을 잡아내며 한국의 추가 득점을 막았다.

Korea finally drew even in the bottom fifth, though it could have had much more. A walk and a single against Gu Lin put runners at the corners with nobody out, but all Shay Whitcomb could manage against new pitcher Lin Wei-En was a double play ball that scored a run.

한국은 5회말 마침내 동점을 만들었지만, 더 많은 득점 기회를 놓쳤다. 구린을 상대로 볼넷과 안타를 허용하며 무사 1, 3루 상황을 만들었지만, 셰이 휘트콤은 새로 등판한 린웨이엔을 상대로 병살타를 쳐내며 1점을 내주고 말았다.

Chinese Taipei pulled ahead in the top sixth, courtesy of Cheng Tsung-Che's solo home run off Gwak Been, Korea's second pitcher who had retired the six previous batters in a row.

대만은 6회초 곽빈을 상대로 청충체의 솔로 홈런으로 앞서 나갔다. 곽빈은 앞선 6명의 타자를 연속으로 아웃시킨 한국의 두 번째 투수였다.

But the dormant Korean offense finally came to life in the bottom sixth.

하지만 침묵을 지키던 한국 타선이 6회말 마침내 살아났다.

With two outs and a runner at first, Kim crushed a first-pitch fastball from Lin and drove it 390 feet to left field for the go-ahead two-run homer that gave Korea its first lead of the game at 3-2.

2아웃 1루 상황에서 김주원은 린웨이엔의 첫 번째 패스트볼을 받아쳐 좌익수 방향으로 110미터(390피트)를 날리는 역전 2점 홈런을 터뜨리며 한국에 3-2로 경기 첫 리드를 안겨주었다.

Kim punctuated his celebration with a primal scream and an emphatic bat toss.

김도영은 원초적인 함성과 함께 배트를 힘차게 던지며 기쁨을 만끽했다.

The joy lasted only a couple of innings, though, as Chinese Taipei reclaimed its lead in the top eighth.

하지만 그 기쁨은 오래가지 못했다. 대만이 8회초 동점을 만들었기 때문이다.

Facing Dane Dunning with a runner at second, Stuart Fairchild crushed a two-run shot to right-center field to put Chinese Taipei up 4-3.

2루에 주자가 있는 상황에서 데인 더닝을 상대한 스튜어트 페어차일드는 우중간 담장을 넘기는 2점 홈런을 터뜨려 대만이 4-3으로 앞서 나갔다.

But Korea wasn't done. With two outs in the bottom eighth, Kim Do-yeong played the hero again, this time with a ringing double off Sun Yi-Lei to deep center field that tied the score at 4-4.

하지만 한국의 추격은 여기서 끝나지 않았다. 8회말 2아웃 상황에서 김도영은 다시 한번 영웅이 되었다. 이번에는 쑨이레이를 상대로 중견수 깊숙한 곳으로 향하는 2루타를 날려 4-4 동점을 만들었다.

Korea stranded the winning run at second with two outs in the bottom ninth, as Kim Ju-won flied out to center to send the game to extra innings.

한국은 9회말 2아웃 상황에서 김주원이 중견수 플라이 아웃으로 물러나면서 경기는 연장전으로 이어졌다.

Under the extra-inning rules, Chinese Taipei started the top 10th with a runner at second base. And when Lyle Lin put down a bunt, Go Woo-suk made an ill-advised attempt to get the lead runner at third. Pinch runner Chen Chieh-Hsien beat the throw with a headfirst slide, giving Chinese Taipei runners at the corners.

연장전 규칙에 따라 대만은 10회초 2루에 주자를 두고 공격을 시작했다. 라일 린이 번트를 대자 고우석은 3루 주자를 잡으려다 무리한 시도를 했습니다. 대주자 천제셴이 헤드퍼스트 슬라이딩으로 송구를 피해 홈까지 들어와 대만은 1루와 3루에 주자를 내보냈다.

Chiang Kun-Yu then bunted Chen home to put Chinese Taipei up 5-4.

이어서 장건유가 번트로 천제셴을 홈으로 불러들여 대만이 5-4로 앞서 나갔다.

Chinese Taipei failed to pull away, but Korea failed to make the opponent pay in the bottom 10th.

대만은 점수 차를 벌리지 못했지만, 한국도 10회말 공격을 막아내지 못했다.

Kim Hyung-jun had a sacrifice bunt to move Kim Ju-won to third. But Kim Hye-seong hit a grounder right at first baseman Wu Nien-Ting, who threw out Kim Ju-won at home to keep Korea off the board.

김형준이 희생번트로 김주원을 3루까지 진루시켰다. 하지만 김혜성이 1루수 우녠팅 바로 앞 땅볼을 쳤고, 우녠팅은 홈에서 김주원을 아웃시키며 한국의 득점을 막았다.

With two outs, Kim Hye-seong stole second to get himself into scoring position, but Kim Do-yeong couldn't play the hero for the third time, as he flied out to right field to end the game.

2아웃 상황에서 김혜성은 2루를 훔쳐 득점권까지 진출했지만, 김도영은 세 번째 영웅이 되지 못하고 우익수 플라이 아웃으로 경기가 끝났다.
