The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Determination~(초발심공덕품9-1)

[眞如華]

     9-1.

      8. 衆生의 欲樂理解와 初發心功德

     佛子      復置此喩      假使有人      於一念頃      能知東方無數世界所有衆生      種種欲樂      念念如是      盡阿僧祗劫      次第廣說      乃至第十      南西北方      四維上下      亦復如是

     불자여, 이 비유 또한 그만두고, 가령 어떤 사람이 한 생각 동안에 동방의 무수한 세계에 있는 중생들의 갖가지 욕망을 알며, 생각 생각마다 이와 같이 하여 아승지겁이 다하도록 하였고, 차례로 이렇게 널리 말하여 열째 사람에게 이르렀으며, 남방 서방 북방과 네 간방과 상방 하방도 역시 이와 같다고 하자.

Again setting this example aside, suppose there is someone who can in a single instant know the inclinations of all the sentient beings in countless worlds in the eastern direction, thus knowing more and more instant after instant for an incalculable eon. Extend this as before to ten people, and to all ten directions;

; 이 비유 또한 그만두고

suppose there is someone who can know

; 가령 어떤 사람이 ~ 알며

in a single instant; 한 생각 동안에

in the eastern direction; 동방의

in countless worlds; 무수한 세계에 있는

the sentient beings; 중생들의

the inclinations of all; 갖가지 욕망을

instant after instant; 생각 생각마다

thus knowing more and more; 이와 같이 하여

for an incalculable eon; 아승지겁이 다하도록 하였고

Extend this; 차례로 이렇게 널리 말하여

as before to ten people; 열째 사람에게 이르렀으며

and to all ten directions

; 남방 서방 북방과 네 간방과 상방 하방도 역시 이와 같다고 하자
