The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Determination~(초발심공덕품9-3)

[眞如華]

     9-3.

     何以故      佛子      菩薩      不齊限      但爲知爾所衆生欲樂故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心      爲盡知一切世界所有衆生      種種欲樂      廣說乃至欲盡知一切欲樂網故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心

     무슨 까닭인가. 불자여, 보살이 분제를 나누고 제한하여 다만 저러한 중생들의 욕망을 알기 위한 것만으로 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이 아니니라. 일체 세계에 있는 중생들의 갖가지 욕락을 모두 다 알려는 연고며, 널리 말하면 일체의 욕락그물을 모두 알기 위한 연고로 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이니라.

Why? Because the enlightening being’s determination for enlightenment is not limited to just the purpose of knowing the inclination of a limited number of sentient beings. It is to know all the inclinations of all beings in all worlds, wanting to know the network of all inclinations, that they set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment.

Why? Because; 무슨 까닭인가

the enlightening being’s; 보살이

determination for enlightenment

; 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을

of a limited number; 분제를 나누고 제한하여

the inclination ~ of sentient beings

; 다만 저러한 중생들의 욕망을

is not limited to just the purpose of knowing

; 알기 위한 것만으로 내는 것이 아니니라

in all worlds; 일체 세계에 있는

all the inclinations of all beings

; 중생들의 갖가지 욕락을

It is to know; 모두 다 알려는 연고며

wanting to know; 알기 위한 연고로

the network of all inclinations

; 널리 말하면 일체의 욕락그물을

unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment

; 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리

that they set their minds on; 심을 내는 것이니라
