The Avatamsaka Sutra, The Merit of The Initial Determination~(초발심공덕품11-2)

[眞如華]

     11-2.

     何以故      佛子      菩薩      不齊限      但爲知爾所衆生心故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心      爲悉知盡法界虛空界無邊衆生      種種心      乃至欲盡知一切心網故      發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心

     무슨 까닭인가. 불자여, 보살이 분제를 나누고 한계를 지어서 다만 저러한 중생들의 마음을 알기 위해 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이 아니라. 온 법계 허공계의 끝없는 중생의 갖가지 마음을 모두 알기 위함이며, 내지 일체의 마음그물을 모두 다 알기 위해서 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리심을 내는 것이니라.

Why? Because enlightening beings do not set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment just to know the mentalities of a limited number of sentient beings; it is to know the various mentalities of the boundless sentient beings of the whole realm of space of the cosmos, wanting to completely know the network of all minds, that they set their minds on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment.

Why? Because; 무슨 까닭인가

enlightening beings; 보살이

of a limited number of worlds

; 분제를 나누고 한계를 지어서 다만

the mentalities of; 마음을

a limited number of sentient beings; 저러한 중생들의

just to know; 알기 위해

on unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment

; 아뇩다라삼먁삼보리

do not set their minds; 심을 내는 것이 아니라

of the whole realm of space of the cosmos

; 온 법계 허공계의

of the boundless sentient beings; 끝없는 중생의

the various mentalities; 갖가지 마음을

It is to know all; 모두 알기 위함이며

wanting to completely know; 모두 다 알기 위해서

the network of all minds; 내지 일체의 마음그물을

that they set their minds on; 심을 내는 것이니라

unexcelled complete perfect enlightenment
