1. 오늘의 묵상칼럼 : 빛 가운데 내려놓는 구원

“다른 이로써는 구원을 받을 수 없나니 천하 사람 중에 구원을 받을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이라 하였더라”
사도행전 4장 12절

   사람은 누구나 다른 사람에게는 보여주고 싶지 않은 마음의 한 부분을 가지고 살아갑니다. 겉으로는 아무 문제가 없는 것처럼 보이지만, 하나님 앞에서는 여전히 숨겨두고 싶은 생각과 감정, 관계의 문제와 죄가 있을 수 있습니다.

   그러나 하나님께서는 우리가 숨겨 놓은 것을 모르시는 분이 아닙니다. 오히려 주님의 빛은 우리가 감추고 있는 것을 비추어 그것을 발견하게 하십니다. 오스왈드 챔버스는 하나님께 숨기는 것이 있다면 하나님의 빛으로 그것을 살펴보고, 성령께서 깨닫게 하시는 것을 외면하지 말라고 권면합니다. 그리고 그 과정에서 우리는 결국 “나 자신에 대한 권리”를 포기해야 한다고 말합니다.

   사도행전 4장 12절은 우리의 구원이 우리의 의로움이나 노력에 달려 있지 않음을 분명하게 선언합니다. 우리에게 구원을 주실 수 있는 이름은 오직 예수 그리스도의 이름입니다. 그러므로 예수님을 믿는다는 것은 단순히 예수님을 구원자로 인정하는 것만이 아니라, 내 삶의 주인이 내가 아니라 예수님이심을 인정하는 것입니다.

   예수님께서는 마태복음 5장 23~24절에서 하나님께 예물을 드리기 전에 형제와 먼저 화목하라고 말씀하셨습니다. 하나님과의 관계가 회복되기를 원한다면, 내가 붙들고 있는 자존심과 고집과 자기 권리를 내려놓아야 할 때가 있습니다.

   어쩌면 오늘 하나님께서 우리의 마음에 비추시는 것은 아주 작은 것일지도 모릅니다. 그러나 우리가 그것을 계속 붙들고 있다면 그 작은 것이 하나님께 온전히 순종하지 못하게 만드는 걸림돌이 될 수 있습니다. 챔버스가 지적하듯 성령께서 우리 마음에 떠오르게 하시는 것이 있다면 그것을 가볍게 넘기지 말아야 합니다.

오늘 주님 앞에서 조용히 물어봅시다.

“하나님께 아직도 숨기고 있는 것이 무엇입니까?”

그리고 그것을 주님의 빛 가운데 가져갑시다. 변명하지 말고, 감추지도 말고, 내 권리를 주장하지도 말고 주님께 내려놓읍시다.

   구원은 오직 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 주어집니다. 그리고 그 구원을 받은 사람의 삶은 점점 더 예수님의 빛 가운데 드러나며, 마침내 “내가 옳으냐”보다 “주님이 원하시는 것이 무엇인가”를 선택하는 삶으로 변화되어 갑니다.

   오늘도 주님 앞에서 숨기는 것을 내려놓고, 나 자신에 대한 권리를 포기하며, 오직 예수 그리스도의 이름을 붙들고 살아가는 하루가 되기를 소망합니다.

<오늘의 기도> 

“주님, 제가 하나님께 숨기고 있는 것이 있다면 주님의 빛으로 비추어 주옵소서. 그것을 변명하거나 감추지 않고 주님 앞에 내려놓게 하시며, 나 자신에 대한 권리를 포기하고 예수님을 나의 주인으로 모시게 하옵소서. 오직 예수 그리스도의 이름만 의지하여 오늘을 살아가게 하옵소서. 아멘.”

2. 오늘의 묵상칼럼(영어버전) :  Surrendering What We Hide into the Light

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12 (NIV)

   Every person has something they would rather not show to others. We may appear fine on the outside, while still carrying hidden thoughts, feelings, struggles, broken relationships, or sins within us.

   But God is not unaware of what we hide. His light reveals what is hidden so that we may bring it into His presence. Oswald Chambers urged believers not to ignore what the Holy Spirit reveals, but to allow God’s light to search their hearts. He also emphasized that following Christ requires us to give up our right to ourselves.

   Acts 4:12 reminds us that salvation does not come through our goodness, effort, or achievement. Salvation is found only in the name of Jesus Christ. Therefore, believing in Jesus is more than acknowledging Him as our Savior. It means recognizing that He is the Lord of our lives.

   Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:23–24 that before bringing our offering to God, we should first be reconciled with our brother or sister. If we truly desire fellowship with God, there are times when we must lay down our pride, stubbornness, resentment, and our right to have things our own way.

   Perhaps what God is bringing into the light today seems like a very small thing. Yet even a small thing can become an obstacle to wholehearted obedience when we refuse to surrender it. As Chambers reminds us, when the Holy Spirit brings something to our attention, we should not simply dismiss it.

So let us quietly ask ourselves today:

“What am I still hiding from God?”

   Bring it into the light of Christ. Do not defend it. Do not hide it. Do not insist on your own rights. Lay it down before the Lord.

   Salvation is found only in the name of Jesus Christ. And those who have received that salvation are gradually brought into the light of Christ, learning to live not by asking, “Am I right?” but by asking, “What does my Lord desire?”

   May we surrender what we hide, give up our right to ourselves, and hold firmly to the name of Jesus Christ today.

<Prayer> 
   “Lord, if there is anything I am still hiding from You, shine Your light upon it. Help me bring it honestly before You without excuses or concealment. Teach me to surrender my right to myself and to acknowledge Jesus as the Lord of my life. May I depend on the name of Jesus Christ alone and walk faithfully with You today. Amen.”
